Western Australia has all the delights, but the magnificent buildings of the city centre make for the perfect backdrop for photographs. And for Adam and Jessica? They glammed themselves right up and made the most of the city’s State Buildings and Cathedral Square for something a little different. “We wanted to push ourselves outside of our comfort zone and try a different style of photos,” explains Jessica. “We had recently just had our engagement party and I was so disappointed that many of the photos from the disposable cameras had come out poorly (no flash, pictures of the ceiling, etc – haha). I wanted to capture how we felt at our engagement party, and in the same outfits, so I asked our photographer if she could capture something that met that criteria.”
And met it she did, Katriese of Through the Wild Photography joining the couple for a session that really captured that sense of old-world elegance, of glamour and of romance.
The couple became engaged on a “treat yourself” holiday to Yallingup, recalls Jessica, “Before we went down, I had suggested we get some photos taken down by the beach, as we had just built a house and I wanted to hang some pictures on our walls (as we had none). This was all organised, but as we drove to the spot, I realised Adam had secretly arranged a beachside picnic, complete with all our favourite treats. And the photographer was in on it too, hiding in the bushes, ready to capture the moment.
The funny thing is, Adam had hidden the ring in his car the entire time (crazy right!). He said because we had just moved into the brand new house, there was nowhere he could hide it because it was all pretty bare/sparse at the time.”
What does Jessica love about Adam? “I love Adam’s uncanny ability to make me laugh even when I’m feeling down or grumpy. Even though his jokes aren’t always funny, he always makes me smile. He also deserves major kudos for putting up with my perfectionist ways. He’s been my go-to hero for all the DIY projects I come up with that I swear I’ll assist with, but let’s be real, I just watch and hand him the drill (haha). We love to go out and eat and just purely enjoy each other’s company.”
