Crystal and Jack had THREE rescheduled wedding dates due to COVID; this was one couple dedicated to celebrating their day exactly as it should be with their friends and family. With a bit of rain for good luck, the end result was it was a perfect celebration. Fall in love with Crystal & Jack’s Modern Mitchelton Winery Wedding from Weddings Captured by Peta. Crystal tells us all about their day…

We met at the age of 15. I played netball with a mutual friend who Jack went to school with. Jack got my number from this friend and waited 3 months until I gave in and finally agreed to go out with him.

We have always thought Valentine’s Day proposals are cliche however when Jack was trying to figure out a time that would actually surprise me and not have me guess what was happening he realised Valentine’s Day was the best day. I would never think he would do it then. The proposal happened in our new house. Jack ordered a book called ‘All The Reasons I Love You’ and gave it to me on Valentine’s Day. The last page of the book asked if I would marry him, and he ordered our favourite Thai food for the night.

We chose black and white for the boys because it’s classic and simple and looks great on everyone. Their attire was from Joe Paul Menswear.

I wanted a fun, light and flowery dress that sparkled. I ticked the sparkle box with a little too much enthusiasm but I couldn’t be happier about it. I chose my dress from Belles and Bows Bridal and loved it because I felt fabulous in it. I could move in it so easily. It was light and moved with me. I wore my Nan’s engagement ring who is no longer with us and Jack wore his Pop’s watch who is no longer with us.

My favourite part of the day was our first look and our little moments together just the two of us.

The whole day was at Mitchelton Winery. They take care of everything and have backup plans for all weather options. Everything was so seamless.

My dad (Bill) walked me down the aisle. Our aisle song was a cover of “Iris” (originally by The Goo Goo Dolls) – we used a cover by Kina Grannis. We both loved The Goo Goo Dolls growing up so it was fitting.

We included one reading in our ceremony which was about meeting your best friend and falling in love. Jack’s sister read the reading in the ceremony. Our vows were simple and true to who we are. Our ceremony was in the moody cellar which is dreamy on its own. Even though we had 120 guests it felt private and just for us still.

Our florist was Ivy and Bloom who was relaxed, professional and so very talented. We had white flowers with native foliage, and pastel pink colours were in my bouquet.

All the groomsmen wore black and white suits to match Jack, and my bridesmaids wore dusty rose coloured dresses with nude heels and rose gold jewellery.

Peta from Weddings Captured by Peta is Jack’s friend from high school. We were meant to be one of Peta’s first weddings before COVID hit but we had to reschedule twice and finally got our third time lucky. Peta has done a million weddings since then and stuck by us the whole way making us smile and validating the really awful days for us when we had to reschedule. She can make friends with anyone but we are beyond lucky we get to call her our friend as well as our photographer. There are so many wonderful photos from the day I can’t pick a favourite!

We DIY’d little things like the wedding signage, invitations and lolly jars. We had photos of our grandparents who have passed away set up as well.

We did our first dance to ‘Moments We Live For’ by In Paradise however we used the acoustic version. There were lifts and spinning and dips. It was perfect. I’m a dancer so Jack had a good teacher haha!

My dad and I did a father-daughter dance which was true to us – fun and silly! It was a mashup of different fun songs!

Our vendors stuck with us for the whole 3 wedding dates we had. All of them were so lovely and supportive the whole way and never made our cancelled weddings a problem. Actually getting to the day was amazing. I also loved dress shopping and creating the vision in my head of what it looked like.

The whole day felt like us. It was fun, relaxed and a party. Our first dance and dancing with my dad were so fun. Doing a first look! Jack loved the anticipation of the first look and seeing me for the first time. So many special moments.

Our advice would be if it’s too hard it’s not worth it. Wedding planning should be fun and enjoyable so if you can’t get something to work out it must not be meant to be.

Their beautiful wedding film was captured by Apetura Studios.

Thank you Crystal & Jack for sharing your beautiful day with us! And to Weddings Captured by Peta for their stunning images.
