In a month of flowers, we could not resist the wedding of Alice and Stephen. A floral embellished wedding gown, bright vibrant tones of pink and purple, a floral lined suit, and a wedding vibe that Alice herself describes as “a colourful, whimsical garden party”. And to that, we say, what better way to start the day? Especially when images by Tony Evans Photography accompany every story.
After meeting “In a dark little bar full of pinot noir” Stephen asked Alice to marry him on their fifth anniversary. “We were getting ready to go out for dinner” remembered Alice. “Stephen got nervous and popped the question half dressed. We went out and celebrated with champagne and pasta!”
Perfection starts here dear reader!
It was actually Alice’s incredible Zimmermann dress that kicked off the wedding plans! “I wasn’t looking for wedding dresses I was looking for a bridesmaid’s dress for my best friend Ali’s wedding” explains Alice. “I saw it and told Stephen we should start planning our wedding. The dress is from Zimmermann and influenced the colour pallet and flowers.”
Alice and Stephen chose the urban venue Rupert On Rupert for their wedding. “Rupert on Rupert is like a lush urban oasis” notes Alice. “Beautiful natural light and filled with indoor plants.”
Alice walked down the aisle, arm in arm with her mum to “Your Sweet Love” by Lee Hazlewood. Stephen’s very favourite wedding day memory? “Seeing Alice walk down the aisle. She looked so beautiful.”
The ceremony was all about emotion says Alice. “We wanted our guests to laugh…and maybe cry. We were successful! Our beautiful Groom’s babe Sallie Jo read ‘I’ll Be Your Mirror’ by The Velvet Underground. We particularly loved reading our wedding vows to each other.”
The joy Alice and Stephen’s photographer captured is palpable, and also makes for some of their favourite images. “All of our vendors were all fantastic!” noted Alice, “Tony Evans – we love his ability to capture magical candid moments. Our favourite photo is a photo of the two of us beaming as we danced back through the aisle surrounded by our friends and family. Everyone looks so happy and the colours are gorgeous.”
Stephen, his groomsman and grooms ‘babe’ were all dressed in blue and navy suits from InStitchu.
Alice’s advice to you dear reader? “Don’t sweat the small stuff, some things won’t go as planned and that’s OK.”
With flowers a theme of the day, the couple worked with Beehaus Flowers to fill their venue with fresh flowers. Alice remembers “Bobby from Beehaus flowers did an amazing job, her work is gorgeous she uses seasonal flowers sourced from local growers. The colours were soft peach, orange and pink. We had Cosmos, Dahlias, Phlox, Tulips, Hydrangea and Roses. Greenery – Soft Tea Tree, Asparagus Fern, Vine. Oak. Alice held a bouquet of white cosmos.”
Alice and Stephen’s dance floor debut? It was to Guru Josh’s “Infinity”. “We love the 90’s, we love a saxophone.”
The wedding cake? A piped beauty created by Mali Bakes. “I was adamant there be a cake from Mali Bakes in Thornbury. One of my favourite memories was my cheeky 4-year-old nephew Ziggy licking the side of the wedding cake” she remarks. “The cake was even featured on the wedding invite. I hand drew the invitations. They were a cartoon of us on top of a wedding cake with our dog Suzie. Unfortunately, Suzie had covid and couldn’t make it to the wedding.”
Alice and Stephen, what an honour to be able to share your day! Thank you both for telling your stories and thank you to Tony Evans Photography for sharing today’s wedding with us.
