As someone who has ventured onto the glorious shores of New Zealand multiple times, and has myself experienced some NZ adventuring for my own honeymoon, I thought I’d share some ideas for couples who want to get out of their comfort zone a little (or a lot!) for their getaway after stressful wedding planning. What a better way to wind down after putting on the party of a lifetime to celebrate your love than to jump out of a plane, horse trek with mountain views, or strap in for a jet boat that’ll make your heart race (much like how your beloved does!). For our New Zealand Issue please enjoy “How To Have An Adventure Honeymoon In New Zealand!”

Biking!

Whether it be cycling or mountain biking, this is a terrific way to get around and check out all the beauty New Zealand has to offer (and that’s a lot!). With panoramic views and stunning landscapes at each bend, riders will be guaranteed a honeymoon full of fresh, NZ air, getting the heart pumping & experience the beautiful scenery up close and personal.

Hiking!

New Zealand really is a hiker’s paradise, with thousands of kilometres of tracks and options to suit all fitness & experience levels. A hiking honeymoon in NZ means you will experience rugged coastlines, lush farmland, river valleys, dark forests and dramatic mountain ranges. The national parks and reserves have something for everyone – from leisurely nature walks, to challenging, remote wilderness tracks!

Zip Lining!

Definitely, extremely fun & not for the faint-hearted, zip lining in Rotorua or Queenstown will offer two amazing and quite different experiences. Zip through lush green treetops and yell at the top of your lungs to get the most of your zipping adventure. The perfect combo of adrenalin rush, surrounded by nature, and at a speed you’ll find exhilarating!

Skiing, Snowboarding & Heli Skiing!

For those venturing to NZ during the winter months skiing or snowboarding is the obvious adventure choice. Combine athletics with the thrill of zooming along deliciously crunchy snow slopes with epic views to boot! Enjoy alpine resorts, and cuddle up with your loved one in front of a fire at the end of the day.

Feel like a little more thrill?? Why not try a heliskiing experience for a true adrenaline, James Bond-esque rush!

Bungy (The classic!)

Venture to Queenstown, Auckland, or Taupo for the ultimate (and classic!) form of land-based adventure – the ultimate Bungy jump! As the home of Bungy, New Zealand really is the place to experience the leap of faith that will leave you buzzing for days after – it’s basically a rite of passage!

Caving!

As one that I have personally experienced, I can highly recommend caving in the Waitomo Caves! Walk or float (known as black-water rafting) through the caves for spectacular underground adventures, and be dazzled by the freezing water (it’s an experience!!) and the glow worms that light up the midnight dark caves. I must say, I felt decidedly Indiana Jones-esque upon completing this caving system, and the tour guides are fantastic and help you along the way.

Rafting!

Action packed white water rafting is not for the faint hearted & will get your blood pumping – which you absolutely need when you’re delving into icy cold waters along picturesque rivers & waterfalls. Check out Rotorua waterfalls, rivers in Lake Taupo as well as along the West Coast & Queenstown for this exhilerating adventure that you and your beloved will not forget in a hurry.

Horseriding!

Another adventure activity that I have experienced (more than once!) and absolutely loved was horseriding! You can choose from a multitude of horse trekking experiences – from coastal treks or under snow-topped dormant volcanoes! I personally chose the Middle Earth route in Glenorchy – the location for the Lord of the Rings trilogy filming. This was an incredible experience – taking in the scenery on horseback really does allow you to enjoy the natural surroundings on a whole new level. All levels of experiences are welcome at most horseriding adventures, and you can choose to make it a wildly romantic experience with your significant other.

Jet Boating!

An adrenaline rush like no other, the shot over jet in Queenstown or jet boating on Lake Taupo incorporates speed & magnificent scenery like no other adventure activity. Hand the reins over to the trusted jet boat driver and get ready to shout out in pure joy as you speed along the pristine waters of the lake, or navigate cliffs outside Queenstown (including 360 spins!).

And… of course… Sky Diving!

And, of course, the OG, the true way to really kick start your adrenalin junkie heart is to jump out of a plane beside your sweetheart after you’ve said I Do! I mean… why not?! Skydiving with soaring views of the NZ mountains – there is nothing quite like it, and you will remember the experience for many years to come.

Experience a skydive in different locations around New Zealand, including Wanaka, Queenstown, Lake Taupo, Auckland, and the Bay of Plenty.
