When Solbee and Glenn tied the knot, they opted to ditch the fuss. There was a beautiful gown, of course, a dapper suit- but the hullabaloo? It wasn’t for them. “We wanted it to be very intimate” explained Solbee. “We had already gotten married overseas two years ago, just before covid! This wedding was to make it legal in Australia. We originally planned this to be done right after the overseas wedding but covid hit and we had to reschedule five times for this to happen! On the day, we were joined by just our closest family for the occasion and we kept the celebrations incredibly low key and intimate.”
With Brooke McBurnie behind the camera (and as it turns out on flowers) the couple prepared for the day together, before marrying in the Melbourne registry office. A dose of sunshine and photographs came next, before they dined together, over a long lunch at a city bar. It was the complete opposite of how the pair had tied the knot overseas, and yet, as Solbee remembers, it was every bit as perfect. “The day was just as beautiful as our big wedding and it made me realise it doesn’t matter how, where and when you choose to celebrate your love. It’s the two of you that truly matter.”
Solbee and Glenn’s paths first crossed when they were both studying the same subject at Monash University in Melbourne. “We met in our first year very briefly. Then met again three years later through mutual friends. Glenn always sat two seats away from me at the lecture theatre.” The way these two became engaged, so Australian. “We were camping after spending Christmas in Adelaide. We went driving in the Grampians. We stopped in the middle of the mountains because it was beautiful. We came out of the car to enjoy the view. A kangaroo was hopping around us. That’s when Glenn proposed to me.”
The little details were carefully considered, right down to Solbee’s choice of perfume. “I’m a sucker for perfumes on special occasions. I wanted to make sure I had a special scent for the day so I could remember the day vividly. I purchased L’Interdit EDP by Givenchy.”
Solbee found her beautifully elegant gown at By Kinsman. She shares “I chose to wear something very classic and timeless to match the Old Treasury Building. I didn’t want my dress to be too long as I wanted to walk around the city comfortably! But still wanted to be bridal! I knew exactly what I wanted for the day but couldn’t find one so I decided to get it made by Steph from ByKinsman. The whole process was so smooth and stress-free. Steph was amazing!” Glenn wore a black suit with a black bow tie Politix, to match Solbee’s classic style.
Solbee carried the most gorgeous bouquet of white flowers. “My bouquet was made by my beautiful photographer! She also works as a florist so she went to the flower market and made the most beautiful bouquet I’ve ever seen! She put together some Matricaria glasshouse (super cute little daisies!!) and other white flowers to complement! Lots of white and green!”
The couple were married at the registry office in the Old Treasury Building, a decision made with just days to plan. “I knew that our day would be a relaxed occasion. I spent less than three days planning for this day! Glenn booked the registry office, I booked the restaurant for lunch, found our photographer and booked hair and makeup and my Adelaide mum booked the hotel for us! We loved how simple it was!” The pair walked into their wedding together.
Says Solbee “The ceremony was short but sweet! A few family pictures in the garden to mark the occasion and a fabulous meal at one of our favourite restaurants afterwards. It was just as special as our big overseas wedding. All of us were so relaxed on the day and we loved every moment together!”
“Our photographer Brooke was incredible!” raves Solbee. “She was calm and friendly. I felt instantly connected with her. She had an amazing attention to detail. I love candid photos and I didn’t want to feel awkward when looking through the photos later. Her photos just captured the day as it was!”
After photographs, the newlyweds dined with their guests at City Wine Shop. “They cater for all our guests’ dietary requirements and the food was sensational” remembers Solbee. “The wine list was fantastic as well! We sat outside and we spent all afternoon eating, drinking and laughing! We absolutely loved the day!” Glenn added “I was very happy to finally get legally married and we had a beautiful day with the most important people in our lives. The beautiful sunny weather and the delicious lunch made our day more special than ever!”
The biggest of congratulations to you Solbee and Glenn for finally making it official! Thank you for sharing your beautiful stories with us today, and thank you to Brooke McBurnie for sharing your images.
