If your heart hasn’t been filled with sunshine by this point of The Yellow Issue, then perhaps, today’s editorial might just raise you up.
The dream of floral stylist Sam of Fig and Fleur (who also played bride!) this was an editorial that was inspired by the colour yellow. Says Sam “I had not seen too many yellow weddings to get inspired by but I had seen one of the florists I follow (Dogwood & Fir). He did a croquet inspired tablescape so really I got my inspiration from him.”
With In The Mood For Love – Jaz Anderson behind the camera on stills, In The Mood For Love – Alejandro Carriel behind the camera on video, Sam drew on the retro vibe of Townsville venue HeyDay Flinders, The dream team creating a styled shoot that was a little bit vintage, a little bit modern, and filled with plenty of beautiful and bright yellow.
Sam donned a vintage white dress and her own grandmother’s veil for the look. Beloved Bohemian styling her hair into a soft up-do, makeup artist Allie Grigg Creative created a look with dark and smokey eyes that matched the mood alongside groom Jye’s grey suit.
Making bright yellow daffodil earrings and fresh flower rings, “I thought about what jewels I was going to wear, and what a perfect excuse it would be to hang daffodils from my ears!! The flower ring was just a last-minute thought also but these little touches made it all the more fun!!!”, as she and Jye “said their vows”. Plinths (from Palm Events) of bright yellow flowers framing the couple with celebrant Abbey Chivers (dressed by Oaks Dress Hire). “I also chose to use whimsical garden-style florals” notes Sam, “but because we are in the tropics I decided to add in some dancing lady orchids and birds of paradise to make the design a little bit quirky!”
And once they were “wed” the newlyweds took their place at a long table (with bentwood chairs from Ede Events) covered with white linens, and more sunshine toned blooms! “I love using florals and fruits so, of course, it had to have some citrusy elements amongst it!” Stylist Hello Picnic setting the table with gold flatware, white and pale yellow taper candles, mustard linens and taupe crockery to keep the look a little modern, but never once taking away from the yellow magic.
And because cake should always be a feature, a tall yellow beauty designed by For Bakes Sake, was made a complete feature, standing tall in front of walls from To The Wall Hire that perfectly mirrored the signage from In The Tropics Events and coordinating stationery from Wonderland Invites.
And then, time for celebration! Champagne (because yellow) popped, fizzed and clinked, and the beginning of a very sunshine-filled life kicked off. Says Sam “Overall the inspiration for the day was a combined effort from myself and the incredible photographer Jaz, after sending through a little mood board we both brainstormed on how this day could become the perfect shoot!”
