We adore a fun-loving couple, their love story and wedding day, and Sylvie & Colin’s Boho-Industrial Perth Wedding this in spades! Behind this exquisitely styled and shot wedding day are a lot of laughs, which makes us fall in love with it even more. Captured so beautifully by Snaps by Novi, the two were engaged in a castle in Scotland and wed in gardens in Perth. A love story that spans the globe! Sylvie tells about meeting Colin, and how they came to be engaged, followed by their dreamy wedding day…

We met in a little town in the north part of WA called Newman. I was the new girl in town, and Colin was excited when he saw some brown legs and I was fascinated by the blue eyes and got more excited when I found out he was Scottish. We properly met at a friend’s place for a BBQ 3 weeks after I moved to Newman. Our first date was at MiaMia restaurant 1 of 3 in Newman for lunch. Colin was looking to have some fun, but I was keen for something more serious. Two months after seeing each other it was clear it was more than just a fling. When I had left for a mini holiday to pick up my daughter who was already on holiday in Seychelles, distance made the heart grow fonder.

In 2015 we went for a holiday to visit family in the beautiful island of Seychelles, where I am from, but of course Colin chickened out, never organised enough to surprise me. However, two years later he redeemed himself. We went to Scotland, it was a last minute decision to have a holiday there as Colin’s Dad was unwell. I’ve always dreamt of visiting Scotland and visiting the Highlands and even stay in a castle. My dreams came true and I felt like a real princess. Colin booked Dornoch Castle, north of Inverness in Scotland. After a whiskey tour and a few beers in him he proposed in a beautiful room in the Dornoch Castle. There was a traditional log fire lit in the background, I had turned around to fill my glass with some champagne, and he took me by surprise when he knelt down on one knee.

At first I said “I don’t know” and burst into tears of joy because I was so surprised, but I did say “yes” twice within seconds, while he stayed there on his knees waiting for my answer. Minutes later we rang the whole family to tell them. We found out later that morning that a couple of years ago Colin’s cousin who was babysitting our daughter that night, had her honeymoon there in the room we stayed in at the castle. Small world for sure!

Colin wore a kilt for our big day as it is traditional attire for a Scottish wedding and Colin being a Scotsman and all. My husband wearing his traditional MacMillan tartan was a really special part of the day.

My flowers were just amazing, I wanted some dry and real flowers to give the wedding a bit of bohemian look and it was just perfect and everything I wanted. I sent lots of Pinterest links to my florist, LUSH Floral Design, but she is such a pro and already knew exactly what I wanted.

I chose to walk down the aisle to “Love Someone” by Jason Mraz, and my beautiful sister walked down with me. Everything on our day was just amazing but I have to say the favourite part for me was walking down the aisle and seeing Colin looking back at me. Seeing the look in his eyes as he watched me edged towards him!

We wanted our ceremony to be romantic, with a bit of emotion, but very chilled and with lots of laughter. Our celebrant, Dilhari from Kiss Me You Fool, made sure we had it had all those elements but there was definitely more laughter and a relaxing vibe for sure. It was such a lovely ceremony and all our guests gave us compliments about what a beautiful ceremony it was. We chose Harold Boas Garden as we wanted an outdoor wedding ceremony!

A wedding day wouldn’t be fun without those special stories! We have a few but the best ones were at the ceremony, as we exchanged vows and were about to pop the rings on, the best man dropped them. Lucky for us it was grass, not sand. Another great moment was when I was placing the ring on Colin’s finger I mistakenly ask him ‘is it in yet’ instead of ‘is it on’. Our guests were in tears with laughter due to me simply using the incorrect word!

Our photographer Snaps by Novi was The Best. We met Novi through our friend Kristy, who is in the wedding industry as well. Novi did a styled shoot for my birthday and pre-wedding celebration the year before, due to our wedding being postponed because of COVID. We were so happy with Novi and we wanted to choose a photographer that we would be very comfortable with. She was just amazing and we are so glad we chose her for our big day. Novi captured every moment of our special day from the start to the very end of the evening. We got some stunning shots and we’ve had many compliments about our wedding pics from family and friends.

I would say we went for a bohemian-themed wedding, with touches of industrial for our reception. We still wanted to keep some things traditional as well, but just let the day be super chilled and fun. We chose an event space/industrial converted warehouse – Vin & Flower – and it was the perfect venue for our cocktail wedding.

Our beautiful friend Kristy from Pretty Willow Hire handled all the small details for our wedding. The reception supplied a majority of the decor, but the table centerpieces were made by her.

For the reception, we thought it would be more fun to do a garter game with a twist. We had all the men come together and tie balloons to their ankles. The last man standing still tied with a balloon gets to have a chance at getting the garter belt. Once blindfolded, little did they know that I had placed the garter belt on Colin’s leg instead. It was hilarious watching everyone’s reaction, especially our friends.

We chose “Coming Home” by Leon Bridges for our first dance. We were so happy to be able to get onto the dancefloor and have a big old dance.

Our fave part of planning the day was catching up with our friends who were part of the planning, and just the two of us spending more time together, having a glass of wine while we decided on songs, venues, and other bits for the big day.

We wouldn’t be able to choose one favourite vendor because I have to say we had the best of vendors and they were all incredibly amazing. Cannot recommend this awesome group of vendors enough. Even as individual businesses they collaborated so well to make our day fantastic!

Some advice for other couples is just always to remember that this is YOUR day. Make it all about you and your loved one. Enjoy the moment, and don’t sweat the small stuff – things will go wrong and I promise you no one will notice, only you, so don’t stress. Take your time walking down the aisle – you will want that feeling over and over again and make sure you watch your person waiting for you at the end, it is the best moment ever!! I still think of mine and I keep on wanting to do it all over again. Dance like no one is watching as well on that dance floor!

Thank you to Sylvie & Colin for sharing their breathtaking day with us! And to Snaps by Novi for their amazing images!
