Creating a relaxing time for your wedding guests is part of the pleasure of planning your day. And, for many couples, having delicious food for them to enjoy can make the atmosphere and vibe of the day all the more celebratory! One part of the day that can be forgotten when it comes to a planned menu is post-ceremony when many couples you and their wedding party are having some photos taken & your guests are mingling and waiting for your return. The team from The Farm Cafe has put together some words of wisdom on why this is the perfect time to indulge your guests in some decadent canapes while they wait for your party to really kick-off!

Post-ceremony canapes are the perfect opportunity to treat your guests while the wedding party sneaks off for photographs. At The Farm Cafe, we love creating canapes that suit our natural surroundings, for example, ribbon sandwiches for garden-style ceremonies in the paddock. Canapes should be indulgent and beautifully presented yet not overwhelming to ruin your guests’ appetites before the main feast. When choosing your canapes selection keep in mind the varying tastes of your guests. It’s always nice to select a variety of lighter and heavier options as well as a vegetarian or gluten-free option.

When choosing the time for your ceremony canapes, we recommend post-ceremony canapes over pre-ceremony. This just allows your guests time to mingle and catch up when they first arrive rather than being distracted and feeling the need to rush. After the ceremony, we normally allow 10-15 minutes for guests to congratulate the couple before we send out the canapes. This is such a special and enjoyable time for the wedding couple that we really want the focus to be on them.

With the canape service itself, we opt for a roaming style. This allows us to ensure the canapes remain fresh, neat, and hygienic at all times. No one wants to eat canapes that other guests have put their hands all over! The roaming style also adds a touch of elegance to the event and allows our staff to approach all guests and make sure they receive some canapes rather than hoping they notice them sitting on a table. It also allows us to explain what each canape is before guests take them which adds to the food experience for guests.
