If you could choose everything you loved, everything you adored to be a part of your wedding what would it look like? For Lydia and Matt, as founders of The Confetti Room, they’ve seen a few epic parties in their time. So when it came time to plan their own, it was time to plan a day that was bright, bold and full of colour. And they did it just in time!

“Matt  and I had to postpone our 12th Sept 2020 Wedding to 23rd May 2021. We just scraped in before the snap lockdown,” explains Lydia, who alongside Matt chose Lovegood Images to photograph their wedding. “Matt and I have also been together for 11 years  so we wanted a daytime fun party! We wanted our wedding to stand out and really reflect us as a couple. We went for a bright and bold colour theme and embracing a fiesta vibe. We love cacti, skulls and rose gold so we incorporated these into our wedding with small little details. And of course, The only thing we were certain we made sure to include was BALLOONS! And plenty of them!!”

The pair, who met at a night club Cheers many moons ago, “Matt was actually my EX’s best friend (they no longer talk, OBVIOUSLY) lol” laughs Lydia, became engaged on a glamping weekend in nearby Healesville. “When we got there Matt told me to put on a blindfold and then walked me into the tent. I also tripped because he wasn’t guiding me and was obviously very nervous. When I took the blindfold off there were balloons everywhere!!! Matt got down on one knee and popped the question!!!”

Matt went for a stunning marsala velvet jacket for his look, finding the pieces at YSG Tailors. Lydia remembering  “When Matt was searching for a suit, velvet came up a lot out of all the suits he liked so when we went to YSG and they showed us this beautiful burgundy velvet we knew he had to wear it. The contrast of all the greenery with his velvet burgundy jacket really popped into the forest setting. His whole suit was tailored and he went for a relaxed chino and plain white shirt to really let the jacket be the main hero.”

Lydia put together her look using a tulle skirt from Chosen By Kyha and having a top custom made by Billy & Boo. She tells “My original dress fell through but I knew I still wanted a show stopper!! I may look bland and boring in my everyday gear but I love something that is a bit different and stands out! I loved the skirt for the layers and layers of tulle and being a dancer/dance teacher you’ve got to know that I love my tulle.

For my top, I searched high and low and nothing ever stood out to me. So I got in touch with a wonderful young dressmaker Belinda from Billy and Boo and she helped me create a beautiful top that was very simplistic but still had some glamour to it. For shoes, I went with Converse for comfort all the way. No heels here!!”

Lydia walked down the aisle arm in arm with her little brother to “I’ll Be” by Edwin McCain.

Says Matt “I loved all the laughter, love and being surrounded by family and friends. Feeling the amount of love that everyone there had for us was really beautiful.”

The bright and beautiful blooms styled by One Big Day acted as the centrepiece of the day. “We didn’t have too many elements at the ceremony besides our epic arbour piece by Tim! We really wanted to forest to be the main feature here! We wanted our ceremony to be really relaxed (which it was). No readings.”

The beautiful setting of Forest Weddings was just the enchanting space Lydia and Matt dreamt of. “We stayed at the one venue for the whole day. We fell in love with the forest setting so much and that is what sold us (as well as the owner Michelle). The forest setting is just so lush and beautiful. The outdoor undercover was huge and gave a real relaxed vibe.”

Lydia and Matt made the most of their celebration experience and handcrafted much of the reception decor themselves. “We did all the balloons, made cactus cutouts, bought all the alcohol, made signs for the dessert and drink stations, hang out our streamer walls and utilised a lot of props we had from our business The Confetti Room. Jazzed up my own denim jacket too.” And as for wedding pros themselves, they know the value of a good planner! The duo enlisting Mellyrain to help.  “It wasn’t the best experience for Matt and I as we had our small business to still run. So it was 80% focusing on our client’s events and 20% focusing on our wedding planning! Luckily we had Mel from Mellyrain helping us with lists and making sure we were on the right track.”

One of Lydia’s favourite memories of the day? The important Dutch courage moment. “Just before our speeches we went to Casey of Miss Fizz and asked for some shots of courage before we had to speak. We then had Glen, Meleah and Mel come and join us for a shot! It was hilarious and all the awful after taste faces were captured!!” It gives hand in hand with Lydia’s rave reviews of their entire dream team. “We can’t get enough of them all. They all worked so well together and we couldn’t have asked for a better bunch of vendors.”

“Meleah from Love Good Images is just an absolute delight!!!” explains Lydia. “She was on the ball and made everyone feel really comfortable in front of the camera. Meleah is kind, caring and funny!”

One Big Day styled the rainbow floral details, the couple giving their floral designer One Big Day just one brief. Lydia noting “We didn’t choose any specific flower types. We just told Tim from One Big Day we wanted BRIGHT!!! And bright he delivered.”

The first dance was as relaxed and joy-filled as every other part of the day. “Our 1st dance was to “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran” remembers Lydia. “We actually forgot about the 1st dance until the duo mentioned it lol- so we had a bit of a giggle to each other and said “I forgot we were even doing this” HAHAHAHA. It was relaxed. We didn’t take any classes or anything just swayed and enjoyed.”

Delicious food and drink were a must for Lydia and Matt. Guests enjoying pizza from Happy Camper Pizza Truck, and cocktails from the bright pink  Miss Fizz. “We didn’t really have a theme we just wanted it to be bright and happy and really reflect us a couple” explains Lydia. “Matt loves his succulents and cacti so we knew we wanted to include this in our wedding. The atmosphere was FUN and HAPPY! Everybody was really relaxed and enjoyed the bonfires, lawn games and going up to Miss Fizz to order their own drinks and over to Happy Camper to order some amazing pizza. Kind of like a food truck festival.”

“Really sit down and talk it out with each other” advises  Lydia. “Make sure you are both on the same page and don’t let 1 person do all the work. Share the load and delegate tasks. Ask for help from friends and family or we highly recommend using an Event Planner such as Mel from Mellyrain. Enjoy all the steps as you only really get to do this once.”

And just in case you can’t get enough of these two, catch their wedding film by Directors Edge.

A big congratulations to you both Lydia and Matt! What an absolute honour it was to be able to share your wedding, Thank you and thanks to Lovegood Images for sharing today’s fun images with us!
