Sometimes you just want a hint of a design to set the scene for your wedding theme, and this can be the perfect way to let your loved ones know what to expect on your day (without giving too much away!). There are many designs that can incorporate nature into your stationery and decor for the day – whether it be through traditional foliage and greenery elements, or if you look to the stars for inspiration and opt for a celestial style to compliment your nature themed day. It’s all in the details, and some of them finer! Annette from Danger + Moon gives us some insight into creating invitation and wedding stationery suites that best compliments your natural world wedding.
Danni and Shaun’s wedding was held on Basils Farm overlooking Swan Bay on the Bellarine Peninsula, so for their invitation suite, I create featured lush foliage and natural kraft fold-out pockets. However, it’s their on-the-day stationery I wanted to highlight. Often couples planning a strong nature theme want to print the foliage design onto everything for the day (signs and menu included!).
My advice is not to let the printed art fight the natural beauty of the floristry work or the setting – strip back the stationery and keep it simple. We settled on arch and circle shapes in classic monochrome, the simple addition of the olive branches around the drinks sign on the bar packs punch and is easy as taking to a tree with secateurs! (So for those with DIY in their nature, you can add your own touch to your wedding day styling!)

Brittany and Bowen added a sleek and modern twist to their wedding, with their invites featuring black foil against all green foliage. The pairing of black with the natural green tones and foliage on the design is a modern and sophisticated way to approach thoughts on rustic and nature themes.
Sometimes combining themes (such as the modern and nature) can create a striking, memorable effect that not only looks amazing but speaks to you as a couple as well. Don’t be afraid to step outside the box a little with your theme/s.

Steph and Jeremy were inspired by both fine celestial details (with Steph sharing images of jewellery with me in our briefing) and the ocean, with their wedding held along the Great Ocean Rd, yet they wanted a modern version. Their Save-the-Date features a simple wave under the date, a design element we carried through to their programs. The accompanying envelope also featured the rising sun, which we continued on their menu’s. Steph initially asked for arch shape menu’s which I did design but said “I’ve also got another idea… are you still crushing on celestial??” and the crescent menu overlaying the drinks and place card was born!
Celestial style is not only magical, but it is also definitely still a nod to a natural world wedding. What could be more ethereal and nature inspired than the Sun, the Moon, and the stars and planets that surround us? This is also such an elegant design to create and would work well for a nature themed wedding that is held indoors with a more modern twist.
