Stuck in the mindset that industrial wedding style is way too cool? That it’s all about offbeat details? Let Amy and Mat’s elegant Geelong warehouse wedding, prove to you that a warehouse can be elegant, it can be beautiful and it can be, well whatever you want it to be.

In the spirit of The Industrial Issue, this day is one for the books. With Love From Near + Far behind the cameras, Amy and Mat planned a day that was all about relaxed love, dancing and good food. “We really wanted our wedding to be relaxed, and just feel like a party” explains the bride. “We kept the guest list under 80, so it wasn’t a big wedding or small, just perfect in the middle. We wanted everyone to have fun, feel like they could mingle and enjoy the dance floor, so we went with a cocktail style wedding.”

As for how these two met? Amy says “There’s no special story, we met through mutual friends at Lambys Geelong, where all good stories start.”  Just as the couple’s fun neon sign says – welcome to Amy and Mat’s happily ever after.

The groom and groomsmen were dressed in navy Eddy Elias suits. Amy sharing  “Mat wore a navy blue suit from Eddy Elias with brown shoes. He wanted something formal and slick but also dressed down slightly hence the brown shoes and belt.”

Amy’s gorgeous lace gown? It’s “Hart” by Aussie designers Grace Loves Lace . “It felt simple but still with some nice detailing through the lace. I wanted something comfortable that I could boogie in all night.” she explains “At the time of wedding dress shopping, Grace Loves Lace wasn’t in Melbourne yet, so I flew up to my Mums on the Gold Coast and went shopping up there. It was just Mum and I, and it was a really special fun day for both of us. This dress was the first dress I tried on and I knew instantly I loved it.” Amy did add one very special accessory. “I wore my Mum’s veil, which was so special. We both shared a little tear when she put it in my hair.”

Gosh, Amy’s bouquet was a beauty, don’t you think? Amy and Mat chose The Posy Place to style their blooms for the day. Amy says  “The flowers were so beautiful, I still love them to this day. I honestly had no idea about flowers. Lucky for Rachelle from The Posy Place who helped me decide, I basically just said I wanted a mixture of white and light pink tones throughout and she worked her magic.”

Amy and Mat chose The Warehouse Geelong for their wedding, noting “It was honestly the most beautiful place! Exactly what we wanted. A beautiful contemporary warehouse feel with an amazing timber backdrop. Yolanda and Darren were also incredible to deal with and made the whole process and day run so smoothly.”

For her walk down the aisle, Amy and Mat chose an acoustic version of “For you” by Rita Ora. “I still cry listening to that song,” admits Amy.

Amy and Mat worked with Ray Galea – Celebrant with Wings on their ceremony, Amy noting  “We wanted everyone to feel connected to us and our love story. Definitely wanted people to have a few laughs, but really wanted them to feel invested.
We included the reading – An Excerpt from The Art Of Marriage by Wilferd Arlan Peterson. I had my godson and his brother write their own reading about what love is. It was honestly the cutest thing ever!”

“We both wanted to write our own vows, to add the personal emotional aspect of our ceremony. I’m so glad we did!”

Amy’s advice for those you yet to wed? “Don’t stress the small stuff. On the day everything I worried about didn’t matter! It’s the most amazing day no matter what.
Take a moment with your partner alone at some stage during the day. Even though the day is about you two, it feels like you don’t even get to have a conversation together. Those alone moments were really special.”

As we knew she would, Amy and Mat’s photographer Courtney receives a glowing review from these two. “Courtney was the best thing to happen to our wedding! She is so bright and bubbly and just on the ball all day. It felt so natural getting our photos done by her, and I didn’t even notice her during the ceremony or reception, but she captures the most amazing moments. She’s a dream to have had!”

“Every vendor we used was amazing! They were all so accomodating and helped the whole process run smoothly. I loved everything about planning the day. I took a very relaxed approach to it, and it helped me to enjoy it.”

For their dance floor debut, the newlyweds chose “their” song. Says Amy “Our song was ‘I get to love you’ by Ruelle. We heard that song a few years ago and both instantly loved it. It was a no brainer for us to have that as our first dance song.”

The icing on the wedding cake? Amy and Mat hired Sarah and Dan Films to capture their very own motion picture!
