Happy Monday Dotties!

We say goodbye to one of our favourite themed issues – the Sparkle Issue (because who hasn’t needed some sparkle in their lives right now!), and say hello to The Elopement Issue to show you that intimate weddings can be just as grand, heartfelt and meaningful. So we encourage you to plan your elopement with as much care as you would a full-scale wedding – think gorgeous clothes, elegant food and drinks, the photographer and cinematographer of your dreams and a venue that will be able to make your celebration extra special because there are fewer guests. Check out our many ideas during October – you’ll be amazed!

As always, take a look at our Polka Dot Directory to choose vendors from Entertainment, to  Wedding Planners, we have Catering and Bridal Gown Services – we even have Venues and Stationery & Paper Goods.

Check out the Polka Dot Directory for wedding vendors who will love your wedding as much as you!

The best part about Leah S Designs is that she designs for real women with several collections to choose from. Gorgeous draped lace gowns in the Hello Lovers collection, oh so flattering perfection in the plus-size collection, and the Leah S Designs collection so gorgeous for any bride looking for feminine gowns of lace and tulle. Looking for a short rather than a floor-length gown? She has those too! She also stocks bridesmaids gowns from sizes 6 – 34, and a gorgeous range of accessories such as veils, jewellery, belts and sashes and so much more. You could say this is a one-stop-shop for all your bridal day needs – it certainly takes the headache out of choosing everything for the day. And best of all you can see what your accessories will look on your gown, with experienced assistants to help you with your choices. They are taking appointments from the 26th of October 2020 onward.

We asked Leah of Leah S Designs five questions in five minutes:

Weddings are the best to work on because….
You get to meet people at their very best, what’s better than being around someone that is full of love, hope, happiness and planning the day of their lifetime.

What is something people would be surprised to know about your job or something that challenges you about your job?

I wish I could say I’m designing dresses all day. That would be amazing! But 80% of the time I’m doing mundane jobs like web site, payroll, bookkeeping, blogging, photo editing etc. The other 20% is the cool part, like choosing accessories, designing dresses, decorating the store, photoshoots, meeting with brides.

What is it about the creative process that you most enjoy?
I enjoy seeing the process of designing a dress from start to finish, from the selection of fabrics to the pattern. Having the idea in my mind of a dress and then hoping the complete dress will turn out as expected. Then there’s the other factor of it being a popular style and selling. I can love a dress but this doesn’t mean it will sell. I just listen to what my brides are asking for and do dress designs they are asking for and cut to our average body type.

What are you hilariously bad at?
Can I have a list? My most hilariously bad thing is hugging, I do try. I either hug too light, too short, or too long, one day I will get it right. Maybe I need to do a hugging workshop. Lucky I have some hug challenged friends so they understand. Don’t even get me started on the kiss on the cheek.

When you were small what did you dream of being and where have those dreams taken you?
When I was 12 years old, I was at a party telling a lady I will be either an archaeologist or a fashion designer. She said I will never be either, that I should be a teacher. I was so mad with this comment, I ran back to my tent to sulk, (oh yes, we were at a caravan park). I’m was thinking maybe the archaeologist might be a bit unrealistic but being a fashion designer isn’t that crazy. Don’t people wear clothes every day? Someone has to design them and besides she doesn’t even know me. I didn’t think about that comment until 10 years later…….. until I became a fashion designer.
By the way, that lady who said that now is one of my biggest fans. I have become a fashion designer and broken down all expectations on what women can achieve.
