Margot & Nick
Embracing the late summer warmth and light, Margot and Nick married with an outdoor wine festival vibe in the Adelaide Hills. Relaxed, classic and with a touch of vintage, we have fallen head over heels for this joy filled day! Overflowing with love, every detail was captured by the superb Davish Photography.
Luckily for the bride and groom, their first date near miss was put to rights, and they are living happily ever after! Margot remembers, ”Our first date was at a pub and we were both early and sat in different sections and didn’t see each other. I thought I had been stood up and Nick was worried something had happened to me! But we found each other eventually and the rest is history. ”Bali set the scene for a proposal, with a sunrise hike in the mix. The bride tells, ”Nick spent five months searching for the perfect sapphire and looked at hundreds of stones before settling on a 2c ethically sourced Australian sapphire. He had it set in a temporary proposal setting ready for a trip to Bali. I had organised a sunrise hike up an active volcano and as soon as Nick looked at this hike he knew this would be the moment! On the day of the hike I almost quit on the way up but the guide and Nick convinced me to keep going! When the sun came up over the volcano he asked the guide to take one more photo and dropped down on one knee to propose among the mountains and the cloud. He had also organised a surprise private dinner in the treetops to celebrate that night. When we got back to Australia we searched for the perfect diamonds to go with the sapphire and had the ring reset in its permanent setting.”
With heavy lace detailing and a gorgeous fitted bodice, Margot found her dream gown at Lover. She shares, ”I wanted something comfortable and simple. I knew I liked the cut and fit of Lover so after an online search I bought it online and had it delivered – the one and only dress I tried on! Nick knew he wanted to wear a tuxedo with a hand tied bowtie but because of the day time feel of the wedding he went with a navy tuxedo over a black. I gave him a pair of interlocking G Gucci cufflinks to wear on the day to reflect our last name, Goss. We only wanted a small bridal party to keep the day simple and relaxed. The maid of honour chose her own dress in a rose gold colour. The best man, wore a matching navy tuxedo. We also had 10 kids, our nieces and nephews, in the bridal party and they wore white dresses and their own shoes and carried oversized rose gold balloons.”
Creating a ceremony which was all about love, Margot and Nick were married in an intimate ceremony in a small Catholic church in North Adelaide. The bride tells, ”I walked by myself to ‘Sweet Thing’ by Van Morrison. We wanted the ceremony to be meaningful and filled with love. We had readings by my grandmother and Nick’s mother and a special reading by my mother by Bob Marley. We also had a number of our friends and siblings give a prayer. Our Parish Priest, Father Michael Trainor, is a very warm person and understood that it is a day of light and happiness and he did a great job in helping us create that feeling. There were a LOT of happy tears during the ceremony. Myself, Nick and the Priest all cried and there was hardly a dry eye in the house! Lots of people told us afterwards that they cried and it was one of the most moving wedding ceremonies they had been to.”
Carrying a simple and classic bouquet in white and green of roses, lisianthus, hypericum berries, misty and spray roses, Margot was thrilled with florist New Bloom. Remembering their chosen vendors, she tells, ”Our florist was fantastic and so creative and the caterers, Comida Hahndorf, were so good! We also loved working with our jeweller, Utopian Creations, and our DJ Ruby Chew absolutely nailed the dance floor! Davish Photography were amazing and so easy to work with. We had done an engagement shoot which felt a bit corny at the time but it was a great way to get to know the photographer and feel a bit more comfortable in front of the camera as well as see what type of photos we liked best. What we loved the most about Davish was the light – the photos are so light and airy and natural.”
Open and lush lawns with ample space for relaxing outdoors allowed the bride and groom to create the right feel for their relaxed reception. They remember, ”We chose Deviation Road for the ceremony initially because we love their sparkling! When we went up and looked at it as a prospective wedding venue we loved the garden and we knew we wanted an outdoor reception. It had the physical layout we were looking for to get the right set up and the team were so accommodating and flexible.”
Remembering a highlight – one of many – Margot shares, ”One of the best moments of the day was in the church car park after the ceremony and after some family photos. It was just the two of us and the sun was shining and we had a pre-packed lunch from one of our favourite places in the Adelaide Central Market and some champagne and we just had a bite to eat and took a moment to soak it all in before we went up to the party!”
Fairy lights strung overhead on the outdoor dance floor created a beautiful space to party into the evening! Margot shares, ”We danced to ‘Dream a Little Dream’ by The Mamas And The Papas. We didn’t practice at all and my headband fell of during the dance but it’s a beautiful romantic song that we love. After that Ruby Chew dropped into ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ by Whitney and people RAN to the dance floor and the dance floor was crazy all night! It was so much fun. We also did our couple portraits during the reception so we were able to come to the party and have some drinks and see our friends and THEN sneak off to go and have the photos done and have a private dinner while everyone else was eating.”
Listing their favourite moments from the day, the bride and groom share, ”Our biggest must haves were to have the ceremony outside – not a sit down dinner so people could move more freely, enough food, wonderful wine and a great dance floor! Having our dogs participate was also a must have! Nick loves Mini’s so we had our blue Mini Cooper and our brother in law’s green Mini Cooper as the wedding cars. We hired the furniture in and we wanted a mix of tables and chairs, picnic rugs and benches so people could really do what they wanted. Food wise we wanted it to be easy but filling and tasty but something you can eat at a table or standing up. We had tapas then paella and for dessert we had cannolis (Nick’s favourite!) and muscat. Instead of cutting the cake we sabred a champagne bottle!”
