Emilia & Andy

It was a clear and beautiful day at Sydney’s Diamond Bay that set the scene for their romantic seaside stroll engagement.

Enlisting photographer Born In November to join them on their walk, this was a momentous occasion, celebrating an engagement that Emilia’s family, all the way back in Italy, dreaded would happen when she moved to the sunny shores of Australia.

“When I moved to Australia in 2016, my (very) Italian family was scared I would end up marrying an Australian boy and never come back” explains Emilia. “However, upon meeting the Australian population I  was quite vocal about that not even being a possibility. The small country girl didn’t quite understand the “cheeky Tuesday beverage” culture.
This obviously changed when Andy went to Bali and tried to die of meningitis (probably due to a cheeky Tuesday beverage, let’s be honest). By then, Andy & I  had worked together for almost a year but never realized how much we enjoyed each others’ company.
After Andy’s return to work, a considerable amount of flirting occurred much to the distress of the Pusher Espresso Bar colleagues. Andy and I eventually got together on September 18th, 2018. They were both as happy as they had ever been.”

“We are very different – yet our personalities are so compatible!”  notes Emilia. “Andy is a very logical yet sociable and insightful person with a great sense of humour. I am an idealistic, creative soul who loves planning and discovering new things. We don’t hold grudges after the occasional fight, and every hour we spend together flies.”

And then Andy popped the question, at the couple’s favourite local pub! Emilia telling “After almost a year of dating and living together there was the Proposal. Because it was a serious occasion, Andy waited for a cheeky Thursday. And yes, of course, it was at the pub (The Horse, Surry Hills).
After quite some time and a small amount of confusion,  I realised he was actually proposing – can you blame me? he wasn’t kneeling! – and said the fateful “yes”.
And the rest is history.”

Emilia & Andy chose Sydney’s beautiful Diamond Bay for their engagement session, explaining “We wanted local nature and the ocean to be featured as well since Emilia’s family had never been to Australia.”
