Lucy & Tom

We gotta say, today’s wedding with its little bit glam, little bit country, little bit rock and roll vibes turned out to be just the inspiration we needed for The Suit issue. A floral print jacket, INXS as the bride walked down the aisle, a rustic country setting and plenty of romantic details gave today’s wedding the coolest of vibes and one we cannot wait to share. With Sean Walker Photography capturing every detail, this one is a feast for the sartorial amongst us!

Lucy and Tom first laid eyes on one another at university, one summer’s day at the local pub when their respective crews were gearing up for another year of university, A scavenger hunt a week later led to a kiss and here we are! Some years later, Lucy began to think a proposal may be on the cards. The duo sharing  “Tom kept a custom Alexis Russell engagement ring under the bed for weeks — waiting for a weekend where visitors or friends weren’t dropping by their home. Tom had a rose gold, morganite stone with a half halo of diamonds ring made for Lucy. It was a cold winter morning in August where we went for our usual Saturday stroll by Blackwattle bay near the Glebe foreshore. We were sitting by the water, I (Tom) remember being really nervous and thought Lucy would clue on because my hands were sweaty. It was around 9 AM when I proposed to Lucy, it was a calm and magical morning. Lucy said yes and before we knew it, by 10 AM our house was filled with friends and champagne. I think the party lasted for two weeks!”

Tom’s show stopping jacket? An Asos piece! “We had been searching the internet for weeks trying to find the right blazer, knowing that we didn’t want a really formal look. Lucy stumbled across a blue / pink flower jacket on ASOS. And it worked!” The groom even outfitted his groomsmen, opting for a little vintage rock and roll style, he had a custom bolo made to wear on the day.

A beautiful blush gown was in store for Lucy, who worked with When Freddie Met Lilly on her gown. She tells “I wore a custom made When Freddie Met Lilly gown with a low back, long sleeves, figure-hugging blush skirt with a white tulle overskirt. Our wedding was in Autumn so I wanted long sleeves, and after trying on a few styles, I couldn’t decide between an A-line and a figure-hugging dress, so I decided to combine them both. Vanessa from When Freddie Met Lily really understood my vision and made me feel excited, comfortable and special when selecting my dress.” She finished her look with a beautiful hair vine from & You Bridal.

Lucy and Tom chose Driftwood Shed for both their ceremony and reception, sharing “We chose Driftwood Shed because it was a one-stop shop for ceremony and reception. We met Karen from Driftwood and she had a really relaxed and welcoming vibe. She showed us around the property and we instantly fell in love with it. Driftwood has slowly been built up with an eclectic mix of flowers and knick-knacks that really set the perfect scene for our wedding.”

Lucy walked down the aisle with her parents to a version of “Never Tear Us Apart” by INXS played by musician Jimmy Vann. “We didn’t really stick to any special traditions, although we hope we’ve started our own unique tradition with our family in that both parents get to walk their daughter down the aisle in the future!”

“Our ceremony was perfect. Meredith Downes from Married By Meredith was our celebrant and she kept the ceremony fun, moving along and inclusive” tell Lucy and Tom of their ceremony. “The ceremony was really happy and modern, we left religion out of it but had our mums do a few poetic readings, and Meredith began with an acknowledgement of country.”

Soft neutrals and dried blossoms were a focus of the day  and brought to life with Flowers On The Mill. “We had a really strong idea of colour tones that we wanted – Lucy’s Pinterest board was borderline crazy” explain the happy couple. “We really liked monochrome with a hint of a blush, and a combination of dried and fresh textures. Our beautiful supplier Caroline from Flowers On The Mill took the concept and really made it her own, and it was better than we could have imagined.”

“Sean is an incredible photographer (just look at his photos!)” gush Lucy and Tom. “We knew Sean from our university days and he was just so organic and authentic in his approach with us. He made us both feel really comfortable, really relaxed. There was no rushing, or intruding — he was just a joy to work with. Sean also has a beautifully creative eye to taking photographs, so he’s not only fantastic to work with, but his photographs are second to none. We can’t really recommend Sean enough — he went above and beyond for us.”

Lucy and Tom knew their day wasn’t just about them. “The biggest thing for us was to ensure all of our family had a special role on the day, and that they were all included in celebrating. From readings, to drivers, speeches, bridal party, to hair and make up — our inner circle of friends and family all made our wedding special in their own way.”

A reception was held under a marquee, guests enjoying a sit-down dinner catered by Rabbit & Co. Share Tom & Lucy “Rabbit & Co catering did an outstanding job feeding 100 guests. Lucy loved the hot smoked Salmon and Tom devoured the sticky ribs. All of our vendors were outstanding. Each vendor picked up on our vibe, they were relaxed and welcoming and worked with us to help us get the best result.”

Lucy and Tom sourced much of their decor themselves, and let Driftwood do the rest. “Driftwood was a DIY venue but it never really felt like that. Karen had the place ready to rock and roll with tables, chairs, crockery and her beautiful eclectic gardens and knickknacks. Once we added our flowers and got a local caterer onboard, we didn’t really need to do much else!”

Every element was designed and considered by these two. “We loved the creative aspect of the wedding planning; discovering the styles, looks, sounds and even smells (we had white sage incense burning throughout the wedding!). That journey of discovery was a rush, particularly when we found something that we fell in love with or knew it would work well in our setup.”

The first dance kicked off the evening’s festivities, tell the newlyweds “Our first dance song was “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by Frankie Valli. We will be the first to admit that we aren’t the best dancers, so we had the first verse to ourselves but invited everyone to join in on the chorus which was so much fun.

We also had a special song for Lucy and her dad and Tom and his mum which was Landslide by Fleetwood Mac.”
