Small and spectacular, this urban and vintage wedding captured exactly what the bride and groom wanted. With organically styled flowers, a beautiful restaurant setting and delicious food, the newlyweds celebrated in style! White Parrot were on hand to capture their day,
Having met through an online dating app, Natalie and Ashley became engaged whilst on a trip to Melbourne. Natalie shares, ”Ash decided we should drive to the Twelve Apostles. Upon arriving he noticed a helipad and said with excitement, ‘We should do a flyover!’ I thought he was acting a little strange but thought he was just nervous as the weather was a little wild. We boarded the helicopter and began our flight over the Twelve Apostles, it was magical. Ash seemed to become more nervous as the flight went on. As soon as we landed we walked briskly back towards the car as the weather started turn. We then drove to the lookout and just as we parked the sun began to come out. We walked to the end of the path and when I turned around to talk to Ash I saw him struggling with something in his pocket. He then pulled out a ring box and went down on one knee. I was completely surprised and shocked in that moment because it was so unexpected! Just as it all happened several tour buses turned up and then we were surrounded by tourists ! It was a funny and light hearted way for our proposal to end.”
The bride wore a breathtaking gown by Jennifer Gifford. She tells, ”It was an ivory, A line gown with a fitted bodice. The most beautiful feature about my dress was the 3D floral lace which gave it a beautiful vintage feel. I completed the look by having a simple raw edge mantilla veil made and an ivory stole as we had a winter wedding.” The groom had a suit tailor made from InStitchu. Natalie says, ”He decided on a french navy suit with a tailor made ivory shirt and a burgundy and white polka dot bow tie. Having the suit tailor made was such a great way for the groom to experience having something special made for him for our special day. It allowed us to customise the fit, colours and accessories whilst sharing the experience together.”
Wanting an intimate ceremony space, the couple heard about Woolloongabba Substation from their celebrant. They share, ”When we arrived it was simply perfect, it had beautiful exposed beams, exposed bricks and white washed walls. The venue is usually used as a community hall/art gallery and we knew that with some styling the space would look beautiful for our big day.” The bride and groom had pre ceremony photographs taken, and share, ”It was such a nice way to see and connect with each other before the ceremony. We took a moment to ourselves to just enjoy seeing each other for the first time and de-stress before the formal part of the day.”
An arbour by Wild At Heart of eucalyptus, roses and dahlias framed Natalie and Ashley’s ceremony beautifully. They share, ”We wanted to create an intimate and romantic feeling for our ceremony. We specifically chose a venue that wasn’t too large as we wanted our guests to fill the space and feel as if they were really part of our day. We also wanted our florals to be the feature for our ceremony so we had our florist style the venue with lots of greenery and flowers. We also had the most amazing wedding celebrant for our day. Paul Voge made the planning of our ceremony so easy and he was such a lovely person to work with. He made the whole ceremony about us and our unique story and we’re both so lucky to have had him as our celebrant.” The bride walked down the aisle to ‘Hallelujah’ by Tom Francis.
Wintery bouquets and blooms decorated the day, and the bride and groom were thrilled with the result. They remember, ”Upon meeting our florist, Chris from Wild At Heart, we knew instantly that we needed her to be out florist and wedding stylist! We showed her a colour pallet and a simple brief and left the rest to her creative imagination. We decided on a green, cream and burgundy colour pallet for our day. When the flowers arrived on the morning of our wedding they were beyond beautiful! The way in which the bouquet’s were organically arranged and the choice of flowers were better than we could have ever imagined. Our floral arrangements and styling included flowers like anemones, roses and eucalyptus blue gum. The flowers and styling were simply spectacular!”
White Parrot captured the modern and vintage vibes perfectly. Natalie shares, ”They are both such lovely people and we felt so privileged to share our day with them. They worked with such precision and organisation all whilst carrying out their creative work in a seamless way. They were there to share and capture every moment of our day and when we got our photos and short video back we were so happy with their work. They went above and beyond with every detail and are meticulous with the work they produce.
The couple found their ideal reception venue close by, telling, ”We decided to have our wedding reception in the wine cellar at 1889 Enoteca, located within the Woolloongabba precinct. It was really important for us to have good food and wine and we really wanted a venue where we could sit with all of our guests. 1889 Enoteca was the perfect venue for our wedding and the most stunning space. For our favours we wanted to include a Serbian/Croatian tradition of gifting our guests a small bottle of Rakija. It was a nice way of honouring and paying respect to my family’s heritage.”
The romantic and intimate theme carried through from ceremony to reception, with the bride remembering, ”We had our first dance right after we cut our cake to Ed Sheeran’s ‘Give Me Love’. We were lucky enough to have Tom Francis play at our reception so he did a beautiful live cover of this song. About a minute into our dance I looked around and noticed that most of our guests had gotten up and were dancing around the room, it was so lovely to share this moment with everyone. We both loved the styling and flowers for our day at both the ceremony and reception venue. A another standout was the reception venue, all of our guests commented on what an amazing space it was and how good the food was!”
