With the engagement issue in full swing, Rachael is sharing her and Jack’s gorgeous engagement story and how they came to be! Be warned, hearts will melt!
We first met via the dating app called Happn. Jack wasn’t taking it very seriously at the time and had a range of snapchat filter pics which I found very amusing and realised he was quite the character! After getting to know each other, it became obvious we are both down to earth people who love to have a laugh. Nowadays, we tend to say things at the same time and copy each others idiosyncrasies without even realising!
Recently, we were on holiday in Fiji on a remote island called Taveuni Island. We did a day trek and Jack proposed by a waterfall after we had just being for a swim! He proposed using a ceramic ring his sister from Ruby Pilven Ceramics made which had ‘Marry me?’ written on it. We had a custom ring designed and made when we returned.
Once we got home from our trip, we wanted a low key but fun themed engagement party to celebrate with our family and friends. We both love craft beer and knew the Hop Terrace at the Crafty Squire on Russell St in Melbourne was perfect. With exposed bricks and lots of sunlight on the rooftop terrace we knew it would suit a cocktail styled event. As the venue already had some rustic touches to it, we kept the decorations simple to bring out it’s natural charm. We put on drinks and nibbles throughout the day, both provided by the venue.
To style the party, we had vases which were from recycled beer bottles. We removed the labels and added some DIY gold writing and hearts, which we then filled with beautiful blooms.
To make the party special, we made sure that all the people we want to include in our wedding were invited. We had guests come from Adelaide and Brisbane which made our day that they travelled so far for our party!
Our favourite thing about the party was how much everyone enjoyed themselves! We received many compliments on the venue choice and the cake provided by The Sweet Hall.
We can’t wait for our Wedding, which is set for March 2020. We are looking forward to a cocktail styled event so everyone can maximise their time on the dance floor!
We were so grateful that my sister offered to take photos on the day for us which really helped us to budget for the event. She has a good SLR camera which made for some great shots.
