Treasure & Josh

New Zealand downright shows off when it comes to amazing backdrops, but when Charlotte Sowman shared the most stunning photographs of Treasure & Josh, I can’t say we half mind!

The trio headed to the beautiful Porter’s Pass to capture the very best of the region but also consciously creating photographs for their future together, their future generations and future memories in the most romantic of ways.

The pair who are from opposite sides of the earth met through a dating app. Treasure tells their story “Funny enough we met through a dating app. How very millennial of us. I’m originally from Seattle, Washington, and Josh from Christchurch, New Zealand. Josh was preparing for a 6-month backpacking trip to the United States and we happened to connect. For the first year leading up to his visit we were just friends and hit it off really well. When he finally made it to the States and we met up something just clicked. We both felt there was something more there but remained just friends as living on completely different sides of the world didn’t make sense for a relationship.

Once his trip was over he returned to New Zealand, but we continued to talk daily and Skype throughout the week. Finally, it came to a head and we decided to give our relationship a go. He flew out to Seattle to meet my family and I came out to Christchurch to meet his and discover New Zealand. After my two week visit, we decided to take the plunge and I took the steps to move out to New Zealand. So after a year of long distance, I moved and about 6 months after moving he proposed to me on a family trip to Fiji.”

Treasure remarks “We see each other, flaws and all, and embrace it. Josh and I support one another fully. Now, that doesn’t mean we agree always. We’re both stubborn. But we have each other’s backs and there’s never any doubt about it.”

There are plenty of favourite stories between these two, but for Treasure, her favourite unfolded as she moved to New Zealand. She shares “When I first moved to New Zealand Josh organized a small surprise party when I arrived. As I was opening the bedroom door about 15 people, all crammed into a small room, shouted “SURPRISE” at me as loud as they could. I was so startled I fell back into a shoe closet. And that’s how I met the rest of Josh’s extended family!”

Josh proposed in what turned out to be the most appropriate of ways,  Treasure explaining “Josh proposed in a bathtub!! Well not exactly – we were on a family trip with my parents in Fiji. Turns out he was stressing the first half of the trip trying to find the perfect place to pop the question. The hotel concierge was helping him scout locations. In the end, there were no fancy candles or a grand surprise. Just the two of us on the balcony of our hotel room with an outdoor tub, relaxing and enjoying each other’s company. At that moment we were very much ourselves and Josh felt that was the perfect natural moment to ask. It was.”
