Lucy & Gerard
It took Lucy and Gerard just eleven weeks to plan their urban Footscray wedding. After meeting at university, their solid friendship soon turned into something a little bit more and it culminated in a casual, romantic and beautiful wedding that captured their love of Footscray’s urban streets. With a sparkling copper wedding gown and Tony Evans Photography, the pair did their day their way. They met for a first look, they walked into their ceremony together and they chose a day that was in their words “Relaxed & down to earth, with a little urban glitter”.
We join Lucy and Gerard as they see each other for the first time before their ceremony, Photographer Tony Evans captured it all. Lucy remarking “Tony was so perfect. He was so helpful in planning and made us feel so relaxed on the day. We didn’t feel as though we were off taking photos but just wandering around together. We decided to do a first look and most of our photos beforehand so we could maximise our time with everyone and Tony made that time so much fun.
We cannot recommend Tony Evans enough. He is such a great guy and absolutely nailed our photos without making us feel like we were posing or being anything but ourselves. And most importantly, we didn’t feel like we had to take much time away to do that. We just wanted him to fit right in and document the day and we couldn’t have been happier.”
Lucy found her sequin copper wedding gown in a small boutique, she explains “I knew I didn’t want to wear a traditional wedding dress. I was lucky enough to found my dress in a little shop in Melbourne and so didn’t have to go shopping in any bridal shops.” We found similar here and here.
Lucy found her bouquet at A Flower Affair on the day itself. She remembers “I only needed to organise my bouquet as we just used greenery at the reception. I turned up at A Flower Affair on the day of the wedding and they were fabulous and arranged the perfect bunch with no notice.”
Lucy and Gerard chose the amphitheatre at Footscray Community Arts Centre for their ceremony, walking down the aisle together (complete with flower girl, niece Lily). Lucy explains “We loved getting married locally in Footscray. The amphitheatre at FCAC and The Line were perfect – we were able to get married outside overlooking the city, even though it was a freezing day. And our guests could easily walk across the road to the reception.”
Lucy and Gerard were wed by Barbara Gilbert. Lucy notes “We had my mum’s good friend Barbara Gilbert marry us, she is such a beautiful celebrant. It was so lovely to have someone we both knew well be involved in our ceremony and guide us through it.”
Lucy and Gerard chose The Line for their reception. “The Line is a such a great space, it’s a huge blank canvas. We were able to bring lots of greenery in from Gez’s family’s farm, which was a nice connection.”
Lucy and Gerard enlisted Claire Gilbert to help them style their reception, noting “My friend Claire styled and helped plan our reception and we couldn’t have done it without her. She designed the menus, including handwriting names on every single one, placed all of the greenery around the venue and helped map out the day and connect us to suppliers.”
Guests enjoyed a sit down feast catered by Fourside Food Design + Events. Says Lucy “We were so happy with all of our vendors. The venues were perfect and the staff were so helpful, food and wine were absolutely delicious, the DJ was so much fun. They made everything so easy, particularly because we pulled it all together in about 11 weeks.”
A big congratulations to the newlyweds! Thank you for sharing your beautiful day with us! Thank you also to Tony Evans Photography for sharing today’s celebration!
