‘Innovation’ by its definition is to improve our lives – sometimes in small ways, sometimes in revolutionary ways. I thought I’d apply this principal to wedding preparations and track down a few ways for a groom (or a generous groomsman) to make life on the big day that little bit easier – and let’s face it, that little bit cooler too. I should preface this with the fact that these innovative gadgets and gizmos can very easily be utilised by brides as well!

A battery charger

Purpose: For a phone emergency at the ceremony

Remember the days when your battery would die and you just kept on living your best life? Those days are long gone and as a result, a range of portable chargers have flooded the market in recent years. When it comes to your wedding day, the last thing you want is to carry a bulky portable charger in your pocket and if you’ve spent all morning taking selfies with your groomsmen leaving no juice for some post-ceremony snapchatting, where does that leave you when your phone is on its last legs? This power share transfer battery charge means you don’t have to carry your own charger, keeping your suit crisp and instead, you can usurp the battery life of your very understanding groomsmen. Perfect!

A Multi Tool

Purpose: Because you never know

This might seem like a bit of an overreach in terms of gadgets you can use on your wedding day.

But you may have heard of Murphy’s Law: Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. This isn’t necessarily applicable to every wedding but hey, why risk it? I’ve heard of countless last-minute disasters – zips that won’t zip, home-made wedding arches that start to buckle, tags left on suits!

A multi-tool will  have you ready for anything. This one even has a hammer! It’s also the perfect groomsmen gift if you’re struggling to think of something. More information here.

Luggage travel scale

Purpose: For the honeymoon

For those of you who are lucky to be shooting off to your honeymoon direct from your post-wedding hotel, this is going to make packing a breeze. This gadget definitely punches above its weight in terms of usefulness versus actual size. If you’re frantically packing pre-wedding and trying to figure out how many speedos will eventually set you over the weight limit in your carry on, good news – the digital travel scale is here. The only problem with this innovative piece of equipment, is that it’s so difficult to argue with the fact that you are clearly overpacking. More information here.

A drone

Purpose: Epic wedding footage

It would be remiss of me not to include a drone in this list. The evolution of personal drones has been incredible in the last few years, and the results at a wedding are absolutely incredible. If you can’t afford a photographer who does cool drone stuff, then this bad boy may be the answer. There are a heap of drones in the market, and I am by no means an expert but at $52.38 with a camera, this seems to be a fairly good purchase! Imagine a low shot of the two of you which gets wider and wider to reveal your entire wedding party – #weddinggoals More information here.

Ms Zebra Says: I do believe that you can never be too organised and it’s always the thing you don’t have, that you need! Love the idea of the packing scales – except if the bride is anything like me, I don’t think it’s the groom who is in trouble for overpacking!!!

About the author Mr Houndstooth: I am a happily married man. I enjoy a fine whisky, a new suit and swashbuckling around town with my beautiful bride. Looking back on my wedding day always makes me smile, even though it began to rain just as I said ‘I do’.
