Emma & Patrick

This simple classic Palm Beach wedding is the embodiment of all that we love about weddings! The bride and groom planned it their way, with drinks first, much dancing and the finest of details done well. Sophie Thompson Photography captured the day.

Emma tells of her and Patrick, ”We met through friends. We were always moving in the same circles, knowing each other from afar and chatting every now and then, but it was through our mutual love of music and The Simpsons that we really connected one year at a festival. The rest, as they say, is history.”

The bride discovered her dream gown at Karen Willis Holmes. She shares, ”I realise that every woman hopes her gown is unique and I truly felt mine was because I had never seen one like it – the shape was dramatic and structured but the material was simple and elegant, which was the perfect juxtaposition. I loved the satin twill with the net inserts and wanted a bodice that accentuated my décolletage and back so when I saw the dress, I could not believe it. I literally thought: if I had dreamed up my dress this would 100% be it.” The groom wore Paul Smith, and the bridesmaid wore a gown by Kit X.

Choosing to plan their simple wedding quietly, Emma tells, ”Our approach to an engagement was that we never really wanted one. We’d been together 7 years, lived overseas for 3 of those years and truly felt that we were already engaged or married in every sense of the word. We decided to quietly organise our wedding without the engagement first. When everything was locked and loaded, we surprised our friends with a wedding invitation and news that we were engaged, and getting married in 5 months!”

Poppies & Lace created Emma’s stunning bouquet, with the bride telling, ”The brief was ‘white, marigold and whatever else you’re feeling.’ Her arrangements are so unique and whimsical that I was so happy to be surprised on the day. The end result was perfect.” Emma was also thrilled with their venue, sharing, ”There was no theme. That was the brilliance of The Boathouse, there was nothing that needed to be done because they have amazing taste and an amazing team to help bring your day to life. Also our first look and pre-drinks with family and close friends was such a great way to start the day.”

Planning their wedding at Palm Beach, Emma and Patrick had a clear idea of the overall feeling of the day they were hoping to achieve. The bride recalls, ”Everything centered around ease, fun and quality. We wanted to keep the process as simple as possible and have that filter down to the day itself. We wanted our guests to feel at ease as soon as they arrived and for there to be minimal formalities. It was equally important that every element was simple but well thought out and high quality. We skipped SO much, the only formalities we succumbed to was a brief ceremony and some very brief speeches. No first dance, no cake cutting, no garter toss – we were just a couple of guests tearing up the dance floor at our own wedding.” The couple chose a white chocolate and raspberry mud and chocolate with flaked coconut cake from Paper and Poppies.

A huge thank you to our lovely bride and groom, and congratulations on your wedding! Thank you also to the talented Sophie Thompson for sharing your gorgeous photographs!
