Gemma & Chris

Classic elegance always adds a sense of beautiful grandeur to a wedding, and when you combine it with a venue of yesteryear, it creates pure magic. Gemma and Chris chose a simple colour palette of gold, cream and navy (I mean the cake in itself is a sight to behold) and echoed the romantic details through their Glengarriff Historic Estate wedding. Captured beautifully by Peppermint Photography, this wedding is one I am so thrilled to share with you.

It was the little things that brought these two to their wedding day, Gemma explains. “Chris and I were introduced to each other by a mutual friend of ours while on a night out on the town. Our only conversation that night was “Hi, nice teeth” to which Chris replied, “Thanks, I had braces.” Believe it or not, that was enough for sparks to fly.

I remember the ‘it’ moment for me was early in our time of dating before we lived together, I bought a fancy bedside lamp and each time I went shopping I’d try a different light bulb but none of them would fit. Chris went away for work in the mines for a week and a bit and when he came back, he had the right light bulb with him. I never asked Chris to get one and I remember thinking how thoughtful that was. It was something really small but is so special to me.”

The bride wore a beautiful lace gown from White Lily Couture. She tells “It was the seventh dress I had tried on, but the first dress I tried on in the store. I loved how when it was slipped on, it felt like I was wearing a silky nightdress. The comfort level was unbelievable and I had an immediate emotional reaction.”

Gemma and Chris chose Glengariff Historic Estate for their wedding, telling “We had looked at a couple of places before we chose Glengariff Historic Estate. When we went out for our visit and walked out into the ceremony area, we were both emotional and knew instantly that it was the one. We locked it in during the 15 minute drive home from the venue.”

The bride walked down the aisle, by herself to Capsian’s ‘Hymn For The Greatest Generation’.”

Paul Voge officiated the official part of the day, held outside under a grand archway.

Ruby & Ivy styled classic arrangements of cream roses for the day, Gemma noting “I wanted white florals for the day, and Nicole  did a fantastic job.”

Of their photographer, Gemma tells “I feel that Amanda should have a secondary job title on her card being ‘Therapist’ or ‘Bride Whisperer’. Our celebrant Paul was also fantastic thinking of the small things, like water at the bottom of the aisle before your vows. All our vendors were amazing and I’d recommend each of them.”

The couple worked with The Perfect Party Co to plan and style their day.  Hansel & Gretel Cakes made the three tier wedding cake that echoed the navy gold and cream styling.

“I loved our ceremony and hearing our vows to each other for the first time. I love that we could share our day with everyone, including our dog Henry, who just wandered around throughout the whole ceremony and reception. A really special moment was during the speeches, my Godmother read out a letter my late mum had written to me before she passed away three years ago. It was unexpected and a testament to how thoughtful my mum was.”

For the first dance, Chris picked “How Do I Live” by Leann Rimes. The bride remarking “I am so glad that I signed Chris and I up for dance lessons ahead of our day. We were able to spend the time each week learning our dance and practising it in our lounge room. If we were feeling any stresses leading up to it, we would put on our song and dance together.

Our first dance was really romantic and I hope we can remember the steps many years from now. We dance together in the kitchen when we are cooking dinner.”

Congratulations on your marriage Gemma and Chris! Thank you for sharing the details of your day with us. Thank you also to Peppermint Photography for sharing today’s photographs.
