Margot & Regan

It was a long search for the perfect venue before Margot and Regan ended up at the obvious; the pair choosing Regan’s family farm as their classic glam wedding venue. The decision survived earthworks and a cyclone before the wedding date dawned for the most beautiful day. Captured beautifully by Sophie Baker, it was the perfect celebration for a relationship that began at work.

Margot fills us in; “We met when Regan was working for my parents! On Regan’s birthday, we went to the pub to celebrate, where drunkenly we decided to go on a secret date, which turned out to be not so secret at all. My parents smelt a rat before I’d even left the house and I had to confess that I was heading out to dinner with their number one employee. The next morning, things were a little tense around the lunch table between Regan and my parents, however it all worked out in the end!”

The bride had a little trouble with her gown, before customising one to suit her own style. She explains, “I found the process of finding a dress really difficult! I couldn’t settle on a style and I wanted the dress to be beautiful, but still really practical for dancing (and traipsing around the farm for photos). I found a dress at a sample sale that was the perfect ‘base’ dress and then had it altered by a local seamstress. She created a beautiful, delicate lace topper to go over the dress and added extra layers to the skirt.”

The bride and her bridesmaids stopped in the main street of Kyogle on the way to the wedding, so the bride could have her own “Carrie Bradshaw” moment.

The couple chose the beautiful Kyogle property of the groom’s parents for their wedding, remarking, “We looked around the Far North Coast of NSW looking for the perfect venue. However, we didn’t find anything that ticked all of the boxes. We decided, in the end, to get married at Regan’s parents’ property in Kyogle, NSW. After some minor earthworks to create a space for the marquee and lots of hard work from Jo and Ken (Regan’s parents) and some rain from Cyclone Debbie, it turned out to be the perfect venue. The fig tree on the neighbour’s property made for the ideal ceremony location. Honestly, it was picture perfect!”

The bride walked down the aisle to “Wedding Song” by Angus and Julia Stone.

Of their ceremony, Margot tells “We wanted it to be quite relaxed and personalised; a reflection of us. We had one reading by Regan’s sister, which kept the ceremony short and sweet!”

“The best part of the whole wedding weekend was being able to spend so much time with our family and friends! I would highly recommend getting married on Easter Weekend! It was so much fun spending days leading up to our wedding just being together. There is also something really special about looking around your reception thinking, all of the most important people in our lives are together, in one location, for one night only.”

Bloom Culture styled the beautiful marsala and sage bouquets. The bride remarking, “After just one meeting with Vicki from Bloom Culture, she immediately understood what I was trying to create with the florals. She absolutely exceeded my expectations through – the flowers were just beautiful and I think set the scene for our perfect day!”

“There is a beautiful photo of Regan and I laughing as we hug each other along a dirt road. It now takes pride of place on our wall and is the perfect reminder of what an incredible day it was.”

Of their photographer, Margot gushes, “Sophie photographed my cousin’s wedding and her photos were just incredible – we knew she was our gal! We had an engagement shoot (which is a great idea for any future brides) and we fell in love with her. Sophie was so much fun to be around and absolutely made our day. She was happy to trek into the paddocks and run down the main street of Kyogle with us, nothing was an issue. Honestly, I can’t recommend her enough! We love Sophie!”

Twinkling lights under a clear marquee from Mullumbimby Hire set the reception up for a magical, candle-filled evening. Margot tells, “We did almost all of the styling ourselves! Luckily our team (read: family) were on hand to assist with the big job of setting and packing up. We were incredibly lucky to have them as we certainly wouldn’t have been able to do it without them. One of my favourite details was the timber signs we made for the ceremony and reception. They were so easy to make, however, looked fantastic.”

“We wanted to ensure the day was a reflection of us – lots of fun! For example, we had Noah, my younger brother, and Kirk, my cousin, MC our reception. We gave them almost free reign and they absolutely ran with it! They had planned some games to keep the guests entertained and make sure that everyone enjoyed themselves,” says Margot.

Of their first dance, the bride tells, “We chose ‘The Wedding Song’ covered by Bride and Groom. We spent lots of time looking for the perfect song, however thought this was quite fitting. My only regret is that I had thongs on for the dance, which I didn’t think you’d be able to see. Trust me, they really stand out in the photos! We didn’t have any choreographed moves but just ‘freestyled’ it on the night.”
