With the weather starting to heat up and summer just around the corner, we think the best place to honeymoon right now is right at home, in Australia! And while you may not want to spend your actual honeymoon in Australia, I’ve noticed the ‘minimoon’ trend becoming increasingly popular, where the just married couple takes off somewhere locally for a few days straight after their wedding to relax, but delays their longer ‘official’ overseas honeymoon until down the track. Lucky you – the more holidays the better, right?!

So whether you’re ‘minimooning’ or honeymooning, here are some suggestions to inspire your next Aussie break or adventure together!

Palm Cove, Queensland

Nestled between the Great Barrier Reef and a rainforest, Palm Cove basically screams ultimate honeymoon destination! With endless white sand beaches and glorious coconut palms, the warm ocean water makes Palm Cove one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Situated only 30 minutes from Cairns airport, Palm Cove has recently risen to become the number one spot in Australia to have your wedding or honeymoon.

Whitsundays, Queensland

When you dream of a honeymoon destination, nothing ticks the boxes more than the beautiful picture-perfect Whitsundays. Made up of 74 islands right in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, most of the islands that make up the Whitsundays are uninhabited with only four boasting luxury resorts. A tropical paradise with clear blue waters, pristine beaches, spectacular scenery and sunsets, all you have to do is kick off your shoes and get into holiday mode with nothing more than ‘honeymoon relaxation’ on the agenda.

Airlie Beach is the gateway to the Whitsundays and the Barrier Reef – a perfect place to base yourself right in the central hub. With the Coral Sea on its doorstep, there is no shortage of high quality produce with seafood a favourite across the myriad of amazing restaurants. Airlie Beach offers tropical rainforests, white sandy palm-fringed beaches and a relaxed coastal atmosphere. Laze on one of the many stunning beaches or get active with sailing, helicopter rides, hiking or snorkelling in the crystal blue waters right on your doorstep.

Julia and Julian shared the adventures from their fun Tassie honeymoon with us, and it’s definitely worth a read for those planning on taking a trip across the Bass Strait.

Julia says: “Our honeymoon! Oh, what fond memories! My idea of countless romantic Champagnes and cheeky cocktails were pretty much non-existent as we just found out we were expecting! Although we did indulge in some delicious food, some wonderful sleep-ins and some spectacular Tassie sights!

Our trip started with a cruise on the Spirit of Tasmania. Quite a long haul, but we did enjoy a couple of movies in the cinema and lots of chocolate snacks to pass the time. Upon arriving in Devonport, we were all excited to start the first leg of our journey and drive up to Cradle Mountain for a couple of nights. The higher we got up the mountain, the darker and gloomier the weather became. By the time we reached Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge it was raining, there was a biting wind and we were absolutely freezing! Peppers was toasty warm though and we were greeted with a warm fire burning away at reception and super friendly staff.”
