Lucy & Robbie

I am always a fan of a stunning coloured wedding gown and today’s blush number seems to contrast with  the stormy clouds of Tasmania and make them even more beautiful. Lucy and Robbie chose a sweet Peppermint Bay wedding for their big day, not wanting a big fuss, but wanting a day that honoured tradition. They asked Rosie Hastie along to capture their day.

The couple met at university in 2001 and after 13 years together, finally tied the knot.

Lucy found her blush strapless gown at  BHLDN, remembering “I bought my dress on a trip to New York in 2014, I was really keen to do the whole bridal shopping experience there, and Robbie and I were very open about the whole thing and he even came along to some of my fittings! The main reason I chose the dress was the amazing tulle skirt with metres and metres of material, it just felt so right and I loved the fact that it was separated and came with a beautiful lace corset. I envisaged wearing one of the pieces separately since the wedding but just haven’t had the occasion to, it will definitely come out again at some point!”

“I really like the variety of succulents and in particular the range of colours and textures so I wanted to have them as the main feature of the bouquets and the boutonnière,” tells Lucy, who chose Lovely Flowers by Fiona to create the floral arrangements for the day.

Lucy and Robbie chose Peppermint Bay for their wedding, in what turned out to be a warm shelter from the stormy weather. Lucy explains “We picked the location as Robbie grew up nearby and went to school in Woodbridge. The D’entrecasteaux Channel area is a special place for both of us and a beautiful location.”

Lucy walked down the aisle with her parents to Nina Simone’s “Here Comes The Sun”.

Zana Forster officiated the ceremony, the bride remembering “We wanted it to be quite traditional with a few readings from close friends and relatives. Robbie and I read a poem to each other “Every day you play” by Pablo Neruda, which holds personal significance as we had both bought copies of the poem for each other when we were apart.”

Of their photographer, Lucy tells “Our photographer was Rosie Hastie and she was amazing, she captured the day so well and used the not so great weather to her advantage. We were so happy will all of the photographs she took.”

Guests took home handmade favours, Lucy noting “We planted succulents in teacups as both decoration and as Bomboniere so that people could take home a succulent and plant it as a reminder of the wedding day.”

The newlyweds chose “I Found You” by Alamba Shakes for their first dance.
