There are plenty of activities to keep you busy during the day, including the breathtaking beaches. Newcastle is known as a surfing destination, but there are also pools and Ocean Baths to swim in (drop by Mereweather if you get a chance!) and patrolled beaches to wander along. The Anzac Memorial Walk provides spectacular views over the harbour and down across Bar Beach, and if you’re visiting between approximately May – October, you may even spot some whales. Check out which markets are on whilst you’re in town, as both Hunt & Gather and The Olive Tree Market draw huge crowds with their collections of stalls, flowers and food. And take a wander along Darby Street, home to some gorgeous boutiques and very close to the Newcastle Art Gallery.

Finding a hotel overlooking the harbour will have you close by to several beaches, shops and cafes, as well as Honeysuckle Drive. There are beautiful private properties available too, such as The Beach House and Cohen’s On The Park. Larger hotels may have spa amenities, but why not head out to The Golden Door Retreat in the Hunter Valley to indulge? You’ll be able to stock up on gorgeous wines and cheeses whilst there, and perhaps see some beautiful native wildlife. And if you’re looking for some less energetic entertainment in town, The Regal Cinema offers small screenings of current and classic films, with your choice of port and cheese, a cocktail or some sweet treats!
There’s no doubt about it, Newcastle is a beautiful city with culture, fabulous food and stunning scenery! Perfect for a relaxing, memory filled honeymoon!
Ms Polka Dot says: Newcastle has shed its image of a coal city and offers all the cosmopolitan delights of a much larger centre – and it’s right on our doorstep – a perfect place for a honeymoon.
