Natalie & Leith

A handmade wedding in the middle of a Queensland forest sounds enticing enough, but when you add in the most beautiful lavender wedding gown, wedding speeches around a campfire, a romantic serenade and homemade pizzas- well you have a wedding that is going to warm the cockles of your heart. Every moment and detail captured every so beautifully by Quince and Mulberry Studios.

The newlyweds share the story of how they met. “Natalie and Leith first met as friends, years before they got together. Leith remembers first meeting Natalie at a casual dinner at a close friend’s share-house. Nat went on a few long travelling adventures around that time, so it was a few years later that they were both living in Brisbane and got to hang out more. They first held hands on a weekend away at Stanthorpe wine region with a bunch of friends, all fancy-dressed in home-made moo-moos.”

Natalie wore a beautiful lavender lace gown from Bariano Australia . She tells “I chose the dress because it felt comfortable and special. The colour was a steely mauve, it was full length and straight with a square neckline with small sleeves. We paired this with simple mauve ankle boots and an heirloom bracelet from Leith’s Gran. I went out with my mum and sister one morning, found and bought the dress, dropped it off at the tailor to take the hemline up, and had lunch together to finish the outing.”

Natalie and Leith chose the bush location of Tarragindi Guide Hut for their wedding, noting “We went to a local scouts hall, that sits on a nature strip in suburbs that is surrounded by tall Australian gum trees. Afterwards, we walked to a bowls club to carry on with the party.”

There were plenty of handmade details throughout the day, the bride remarking “Our arbour was constructed by Leith’s dad and will later belong outside our home. Nat’s mum made confetti cups from sheet-music and planted Marigolds for the aisle (marry-gold…get it?).”

The handmade details continued right down to the favors. “We’re co-founders of the homewares design label Corner Block Studio, so handcrafted our Card Frames as a sentimental gift. It was a special chance to share what we are making with our loved ones, and send home some reclaimed timber from Queensland with our guests from W.A.”

Natalie walked down the aisle to Factory Girl by The Panics (originally by the Rolling Stones).

Althea Hurwood officiated the outdoor ceremony, Natalie telling “Our celebrant  clicked with us when we first met and she helped us say what we wanted to during our ceremony.”

“Leith wrote a song for me which he performed during or ceremony. Each time he sings that I can remember celebrating our love.”

Of their photographer, Natalie remarks “Kate Taylor of Quince and Mulberry Studios was our comrade and photographer during the day, and has become a friend. Her style meshed easily with our vision and she helped us to be prepared and light-hearted. Kate captured the love, the details, the playfulness and the mood of the day. I smile looking through our precious photographs.”

The couple celebrated with their guests around a campfire – with a fun first dance .”There’s a goofy dance that we do together to cheer each other up…it’s mimicking the blue-footed-booby mating dance from the Galapagos islands. That was out first dance.”
