Tammy & Matthew
When your wedding venue burns down three months before your wedding, you could be forgiven for things going a little haywire. However, for beach lovers, Tammy and Matthew, their intimate Sorrento wedding could not have ended up being a more beautiful day. Choosing photographer Sorrento Wedding Photography & Film to capture it, the couple found a new venue and kept their day as romantic and as intimate as they had always dreamt.
Tammy shares the story of how she and Matthew came to be. “We met in London through mutual friends, we were living in a shared house with 10 other Aussies. We were close friends for years and then Matt finally asked me out!”
Tammy chose a lace gown by Anna Campbell, noting “Keeping with my romantic theme I wanted something very vintage inspired with lace. I tried on 3 dresses and chose the first one. It is an Anna Campbell creation, I got it made to measure and added gorgeous lace sleeves. I love my dress, I’ve kept it in a beautiful box.”
Tammy and Matthew chose St Johns Church, Sorrento for their wedding ceremony, noting “I always dreamed of walking down an aisle so it had to be in a church. I loved St Johns as it was small, so the 120 guests filled the whole church, it felt very intimate, you could hear everything. The church is so pretty, made of sandstone.”
For her walk down the aisle, Tammy remembers “Walking down the aisle with my dad was special, he has been sick for a few years and I am so grateful and lucky he was by my side. It took me a while to choose the music, I wanted something modern as everything else was very traditional. We chose, All of Me by John Legend. It was perfect.”
“The ceremony was very important to my family and I. I wanted guests to be engaged. Being inside makes a difference to the feel of a ceremony, it’s more intimate, and guests weren’t distracted by the wind, rain, heat and could hear everything. I had 1 reading and 2 prayers read by our brothers and a close friend. It was nice to have family involved in the ceremony. I love the movie Father of the Bride, where you look down the aisles and they are packed full of happy faces, I wanted it to be like that. It definitely had a warm feel as I entered.”
Of their photographer, Tammy notes “Shannon was awesome. He knew all the spots to take us, we even had photos on a private beach on a private pier. The water in the background was perfect. From the time he came to the house to the end of the night he made sure to capture everything, and always had a smile on his face. He is the nicest man and his partner Christine is great too. Our photo album is just beautiful. We highly recommend them!”
Tammy and Matthew celebrated with guests at Hotel Sorrento, Tammy remembering “Unfortunately our first venue for our reception burnt down three months prior to wedding day, so we were very lucky to have found Hotel Sorrento. It was a blessing, I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful place to celebrate. The food was delicious too. Our guests were sent straight to canapes in Salt Bar which overlooked the water, it’s a stunning view. Followed by a 3-course dinner in the Park View Room which had a verandah which we decorated with fairy lights and candles, it looked very pretty as the sun went down.”
Hello Blossoms styled the green and white toned floral arrangements for the day, the bride telling “I love flowers, I wanted flowers everywhere, the church was full of flowers. I kept with a theme of green and white only. I had lots of baby’s breath and vines and leafy foliage. The reception had a gorgeous green flower wall behind the bridal table, which made for beautiful photos.”
Of their first dance, Tammy reminisces “We had five dancing lessons leading up to the wedding. We both have no dancing experience so were really awful the first lesson, but we practised every night for weeks. We got there in the end. We were definitely happy to have got through the dance. We were both very nervous about it, as we had put so much effort into it. We danced to Ed Sheeran. Thinking Out Loud.”
“Just after all the formalities at the reception and everyone was on the dance floor, out of nowhere fireworks started directly in front of the dance floor and verandah. There must have been a fete on. All the guests thought we had planned it, and kept saying I was crazy to have fireworks, haha, I eventually told them we didn’t buy the fireworks.”
