Zoie & Jonno
There is such a relaxed elegance to Zoie and Jonno’s Summer Adelaide Hills winery wedding. A beautiful cocktail reception, a dance floor that never seemed to empty and a love story that was filled with so much and laughter, Zoie and Jonno chose Whitewall Photography to capture the magic of their wedding.
Zoie and Jonno fill us in on how they came to walk down the aisle. “We met the ‘old-fashioned’ way, at a bar in Glenelg back in November 2008. Jonno was out celebrating his birthday with some friends and Zoie was out with her sister Abby. We started dating after this meeting, and love soon blossomed and we were inseparable. After 6 months we had moved in together. 2012 we relocated from Adelaide to Melbourne, where we still currently live. On a weekend away to Sydney in 2013 to celebrate Zoie’s birthday, Zoie had expressed her desire to climb the Harbour Bridge. When we reached the top of the bridge Jonno thought that would be a great time after 5 years together, to get down on bended knee and ask Zoie to marry him. Of course, she said yes, and the rest is history.”
The bride chose a Claire Pettibone wedding gown, remarking, “I chose the Toulouse from Claire Pettibone. It was sourced at the (now closed) Intique & co . The gown was Ivory embroidery lined in platinum silk with a sweetheart neckline and silk bows and silver flowers at the hips. I was drawn to the 18th-century Parisian design, especially the back of the gown. The four visits to Intique & co were an enjoyable experience.”
The couple chose beautiful Bird In Hand Winery for their wedding, starting with a garden ceremony. “The 5pm ceremony was held on the lawns at BIH winery. Conducted by the lovely celebrant – Helen McCann, in front of 130 friends and family. A lovely warm (28c) day, lush green lawns with the magnificent Adelaide Hills in the backdrop. Pre-reception followed directly after the ceremony on the deck, with guests entertained with acoustic session by Jaya Suartika, sparkling BIH (wine), while the wedding party went off for photos. The cocktail reception followed in the Bird In Hand gallery, with the multi-talented Jaya swapping the guitar for the DJ decks. Guests danced and enjoyed Bird In Hand wines. The Bird In Hand kitchen staff prepared a magnificent selection of canapés that knocked the socks off everyone!”
Jaya Suartika played the bridal party down the aisle – the bride choosing Ben Harper’s “Forever”.
The couple chose Helen McCann to officiate their ceremony, noting, “We didn’t want to be long and lose everyone’s attention, but we wanted it to be meaningful and relate to us. We chose some short verses, that we thought best represented our relationship, past, present and future.”
Of their photographer, the newlyweds tell, “We chose the talented Mr Scout Edwards of White Wall Photography. He made us very comfortable from the moment we met him. He felt like a life-long friend, and we still today consider him a friend.”
The newlyweds tell, “We wanted a vintage styled, summer cocktail wedding. Focused on a party atmosphere, with everyone celebrating and dancing.”
Jaya Suartika created such an amazing atmosphere for the wedding with the music – the dance floor decorated with lights thanks to Caso Sound & Light, the newlyweds noting, “We made use of the beautiful lawns that the winery has to offer and had bocce sets for guests to play and rugs to sit on. The ‘vibe’ of the wedding was very important to us and would be a reflection of our personalities. We had a meeting with the musician Jaya and spoke to him about the feeling and atmosphere that we were going for.
We were straight away on the same wavelength and Jaya would play music with strict instructions of no ‘corny’ pop music. When night fell the party really got turned. Most guests were on the dance floor moving to mainly old-school hip-hop tunes. The festoon lighting that our contractor, Caso Sound and Light, had installed gave a luxurious atmosphere. We wanted people to walk away from the wedding having had the best night ever, and one to remember. It was all about the party, and celebrating our union.”
