Alison & James

James and I met as students at the University of Western Australia. We have since moved to Melbourne and have lived here for five years.  In September 2014, for our tenth anniversary, we took a trip to the beautiful One and Only Resort in Hayman Island. We hiked up to the top of the island and James proposed at the look out.

We decided to hold our wedding in Perth, as we have very strong family and friendship ties back there. We saw a few venues but I fell in love with the high, white walls, exposed rafters and historical elements at The Flour Factory.

My gown was a classic ivory crepe sheath from Martina Liana with a very low back, and chapel train. The gown was set off with embellished details including the beaded belt, antique hair piece and old-world jewellery. I didn’t find it until a few months before the wedding; by that time I had already chosen all the other elements, but it suited our wedding perfectly. The final fitting for alterations was the day before I flew from Melbourne to Perth, which cut it very fine, but it fitted like a dream and I felt amazing on the day.

The bridesmaids’ dresses were navy crepe full-length gowns by White by Vera Wang. I loved how elegant and timeless they were, with subtle differences between the two dresses.

We took our photographs before the ceremony around King’s Park and some beautiful buildings, street art and laneways in Perth. I was really happy to do a first look and spend some time with James and our best friends before the ceremony.

Towards the end of the shoot we stumbled upon a tiny underground bar with beautiful black and white photos from the 1940”s and 50’s on the wall. All six of us in the bridal party sat at the bar, had a quick drink and just chatted and laughed. It was such a fun and relaxing way to start our wedding! It just felt like a group of friends having a wonderful time.

I wanted a fun and relaxed country wedding in an urban setting. The wedding theme was rustic, artisanal vintage with a touch of old-world aesthetics. The main colours were navy and white with plenty of greenery, and we opted for a lot of contrasting textures; lush greenery against bare white walls, soft white florals and delicate festoon lighting against the heavy wooden architectural features.

I loved how the festoon lighting cast a really warm glow on everything. We also liked the idea of keeping the ceremony and reception in one location to enhance the flow of the event. Aisle Style set up white wooden benches in the upstairs event space for the ceremony, and then whilst our guests were downstairs for the cocktail hour, they rearranged the room for a cocktail reception.

Ben McCoy from Viva Life Photography was our photographer and we were thrilled with him. He was professional but relaxed, had an amazing eye for detail and made the experience so much fun! He also went out of his way to source incredible locations before the day.
