Ruth & Rob
Ruth and Rob spent nine months preparing their very own backyard for their wedding festivities. That ‘at home’ feeling carried itself through every aspect of the day – leaving guests in a celebratory mood, kicking their shoes off for a night of fun. The day was captured by Earthbound Images.
On how they met, Ruth shares, “We were at school together for a year and never met, until one night at a friend’s house party.”
The bride and bridesmaids wore Alannah Hill, noting, “I chose a dress from Alannah Hill – the original dress was quite short so we bought a skirt of the same style which was a bit longer and swapped the skirt onto the dress making it a lovely tea length dress. A pink ribbon was added to give a little bit of colour and match the groom’s tie.”
Ruth and Rob chose Wireless Hill Park for their ceremony, explaining, “Wireless Hill Park, was a location we went on one of our first dates and where Rob proposed.”
The bride arrived to the wedding on the front of a cargo bike. She walked down the aisle to Regina Spektor’s “Real Love”.
Andrew Baker officiated the ceremony, the bride explaining, “It was supposed to be a relaxed and fun wedding. We had ‘Us Two’ by A A Milne read by my sister and then my other sister sang You’ve Got a friend in Me before surprising us by singing another song – Happy Together with my brother and his girlfriend both jumping up and singing as well!”
Guests enjoyed post ceremony treats of icypoles from Delish Ice.
Floral Army created the floral arrangements for the bridal party, Ruth noting, “The flowers from Floral Army were incredible.”
Of their photographer, Ruth remembers, “Alannah was amazing. A delight to work with and she captured perfectly the relaxed atmosphere we were after. There were very few posed photos which was great, they were mostly spontaneous and fun.”
The newlyweds celebrated with guests in their own backyard. “Our backyard was a wasteland when we moved in. We then spent nine months turning it into a beautiful entertaining space and the perfect place for our amazing party.”
“We built an enormous deck and designed and helped construct our backyard and planted everything. We strung up all the lights and my mother in law made all the bunting. We collected and decorated heaps of mason jars and arranged all the flowers except for the bouquets and buttonholes.”
Congratulations on your marriage Ruth and Rob! Thank you for allowing us to share your day! Thank you also to Earthbound Images for sharing today’s wedding!
