Chalkboard Heart Table Number Tutorial

When it comes to your wedding decor nothing works harder than your table numbers. In fact when you think about it, the way you display your table numbers can say a lot about your wedding themes or even you as a couple. These chalkboard hearts are very easy to DIY and as an added bonus you can leave chalkboard pens on each table so your guests can sign their name for an incredibly unique guest book – what a great way to remember the all important seating chart that you laboured over for months!

Admittedly we cheated a little bit with this particular DIY – the wooden hearts are actually pre-made (I believe their main purpose is for a self-decorated wand!) but if you have the tools and the ability to fully DIY this project then by all means go for it. For those of us who can’t be trusted with a jigsaw, these wooden wands are available from most crafting shops.

What you’ll need:

Wooden heart wands

Chalkboard paint

A soft paintbrush

Chalk

Chalk marker

What to do:

Step 1 Start by removing all stickers and ensuring the hearts are clean and free of dust.

Step 2 Apply the chalkboard paint to the hearts with a paint brush. You want a soft, clean brush so the paint dries without any obvious streaks. Paint the back as well for a more uniform look. Allow to dry for 24 hours (they will be dry to the touch after about 1-2 hours depending on the thickness of your paint layer but for best results leave overnight).

Step 3 Rub all over the hearts with a piece of chalk (holding it lengthways rather than straight on) to set the chalkboard. When you’re done lightly rub the chalk off with a soft cloth until clean.

Step 4 Write your table numbers in the centre of each heart with your chalk marker. If you’re concerned about your handwriting, start by writing it lightly with a regular piece of chalk (this is far easier to clean off than the markers) and go over it with your marker.

Step 5 Leave either white paint or chalk markers on the table so your guests can sign their name on the heart and leave you a message as a nice memento to take home.
