At Inglewood Inn, our mantra has always been that every wedding should be a unique and personal celebration that embody all of the bride’s and groom’s beliefs. When we were approached by a couple who were after an all vegan-friendly menu, we were all excited – particularly the chef – to work on something new and challenging.

One thing you often don’t think about is wine. In most cases, the filtering process uses fish scales, ruling out a lot of our suppliers as being vegan-friendly. However, one of our favourite local vineyards Paracombe Premium Wines, came to the rescue. Paracombe’s Sauvignon Blanc, Ruby Red Rose, Shiraz and Sparkling became a feature of the menu along with a fantastic selection of South Australian beers such as the Lobethal Bierhaus Philsner and Hefeweizen, Coopers Pale Ale and Barossa Cider Co. Apple Cider.

We worked closely with the couple to ensure that was being served was something themselves and their guests would like to eat. The couple put forward ideas of their favourite food and then let our chef put his taste to it. After a bit of experimentation and a tasting with the couple, our menu was set!

Home-made spring rolls, bruschetta and cold rolls were served down on the lawns after the wedding ceremony, with an all vegan antipasto keg top featuring olives, dip, pickled vegetables, dolmades and dried fruits. For the main course, curries were shared amongst their tables such as a cashew and fennel vindaloo and a kale and chickpea rogan josh. Chickpea and corn vegetable patties with a house-made eggplant kasundi was also on the menu. Being a different experience for most guests, we were glad to see all tables coming back for more as positive comments were passed round!

As a special touch, and in keeping with the vegan theme, the couple replaced guest favours with monetary donations to the Freedom Hill Sanctuary – an Adelaide Hills not-for-profit organisation dedicated to re-homing neglected farm animals.

It was such an educational experience for all of us at Inglewood Inn, particularly the Chef and staff who now have a greater idea of what we can provide for restaurant dinners. We’ve also been including a weekly vegan special and hope to host another vegan-friendly wedding again soon.
