Alice & Lucas
Ah I am so in love with the venue of Alice and Lucas’ romantic Red Feather Inn wedding. This sweet little Tasmanian homestead sets the scene for the most romantic of Tasmanian weddings. With its beautiful sandstone walls, gorgeous gardens well it makes the most of romance! Alice and Lucas chose photographer Michelle Dupont to capture their wedding day.
Alice and Lucas share their story. “We met through working for the same company – in different stores. Living in a small city like Launceston its not hard to run into someone if you really want to! We found ourselves meeting up on weekends for a couple of drinks and some dancing – the rest is history!”
Alice and Lucas exchanged gifts before the wedding, remembering “Lucas bought Alice a necklace from Tiffany & Co. He gave it to the girls to surprise Alice on the day. Alice is not a jewellery person (as well as not having any idea what her outfit would look like) but some how it went perfectly and Alice loved it! Alice brought Lucas a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue label whisky for his 21st birthday, he has been saving it for the right moment to open and when he did, Alice had snuck in a letter just before the wedding! From what she has heard it was an emotional moment!”
Alice wore a gown by Rosa Clara from Little White Boutique, explaining, “I ended up choosing a very 1920’s inspired dress, it had the perfect mixture of classic and modern. It was important for me to have a dress that wasn’t going to be too high maintenance on the day and to make sure it was a flattering dress that was suited to my body. The process was very simple, I went to one boutique and gave every style a try. From this I had pictured exactly what I wanted and the Rosa Clara dress was like love at first sight! I knew that I had chosen the perfect dress because leading up to the wedding and even til now, I have not come across another dress that I feel even comes close to the one I chose.”
Alice and Lucas were married at The Red Feather Inn noting, “We chose Red Feather Inn at Hadpsen, a little town about 10 minutes drive from Launceston. It is a gorgeous setting of historic convict-built sandstone buildings used as a bed and breakfast. For the wedding we also utilised a large barn and stable that gave us everything we needed for the day.
We had accommodation for ourselves as well as some close family and friends. The following morning we were all able to catch up over breakfast and reminisce the big day which was really special to finish off before our honeymoon. Alice is vegetarian so that was also something that came into consideration and to find somewhere that naturally catered for vegetarians and used the freshest produce and ingredients (most vegetables they grow at the Inn or on their farm) was really fantastic, the food was amazing.”
Alice recalls of her walk down the aisle, “Both the song and the artist is called You and Me – who are a duet (Dallas Green and Pink) it is the perfect love song and really resonated with us.”
Meg Culhane officiated the ceremony, the newlyweds remembering, “We wanted it to be short and sweet – we don’t get excited over public speaking so we wanted to keep the ceremony intimate. We got married under a gorgeous old oak tree at the venue, it was picture perfect for what we wanted our day to be.”
“We had two readings – the first was a reading called “Union” by Robert Fulham (read by our celebrant) – it is one of those readings that just simply summed up our love! Our other reading was “All I ever need to know about life I learned from my dog!” – Author is unknown, this was read by Alice’s sister Sarah. It was really sweet because it felt like a reflection of our love through our two little dogs, Wendy and Wayne (who were too busy to attend).”
“It was really important to have close friends and family included in the wedding, Lucas’ nephew Hunter had a special role as ring bearer which made him feel very important.”
“We were never short of friends offering to help, we had friends MC, record the the ceremony, set up on the day and generally make sure everything ran smoothly, we are very lucky! We managed to enjoy the build up to the day! The stigma is that the planning is stressful but through the whole process we felt a step ahead of where we needed to be, it gave us the chance to relax and take time to prepare for the day.”
Of their photographer, Alice and Lucas note, “We couldn’t say enough nice things about Michelle Dupont! When we initially met Michelle for coffee we were sold! We had an engagement shoot and the photos were incredible and we knew that we had made the right investment. We loved how Michelle made us feel comfortable through the whole day, the shots are in the moment and she captures every little detail in every photo and we love how natural the collection looks. Every photo – from the first – to the last tells a story of the day in order. We couldn’t be happier, it is a very cherished album!”
The couple added a few personal touches to their day, remembering, “We utilised the stable for our wishing well we had an old suitcase that we decorated up and used it to collect any donations and cards, it had a very rustic cool look! We scattered photo frames with pictures of ourselves as kids through the barn that we set up for the wishing well and signing book. We set up a photo booth style area for the signing book and had a polaroid camera for each guest to print a photo, stick in the book and leave a message for us, it is great to look back on for some memories of the night (and a few laughs!)”
Of their first dance, the newlyweds remember, “Our first dance was a song called “Grow Old With You” by Adam Sandler (from The Wedding Singer) the lyrics sum us as a couple up perfectly and we really related to it! We aren’t the classic waltzing type, so not being a long running song was a bonus!”
Alice and Lucas remember “Our DJ decided to surprise us with some karaoke (which Alice loves!) he played “living next door to Alice” and we did a duet! From this idea Lucas’ groomsmen decided to redo a pub karaoke night from his youth and had “Bohemian Rhapsody” played, by the end of the song the microphones would have just about been used by every guest at the wedding!”
Congratulations on your marriage Alice and Lucas! Thank you for sharing your wedding day with us! Thank you also to Michelle Dupont for sharing today’s wedding!
