Keren & Mat
Keren and Mat’s elegant backyard wedding captured by Steven Cheah Photography is such a beautiful feast for the eyes. Long tables topped with herbs, olive leaf branches, a golden sun lit church and a first dance under the fairy lights that is almost magic.
Keren tells their story. “We met when we were working together in a restaurant, we fancied one another but I had a boyfriend. We didn’t see each other for 5 years until one night we bumped into each other in a bar by chance and since that night we haven’t spent a lot of time apart.”
Keren chose Brides by Design to make her gown, remembering, “I had tried on lots of dresses and visited many bridal stores and I couldn’t find anything I loved. Then I thought I would have a look at Brides by Design, we went in and within 5 minutes my sister found a laced slip that she told me I had to try on, so I did and I loved the look. We then built my dress from the idea of the slip we found, from the calico to the finished product, the process was amazing, I cannot speak highly enough of the skilled and brilliant women who create the dresses. I had one lady make my dress and do every fitting with me, so she could make the dress perfectly to my body and I know, there is no other dress like it!!”
Keren and Mat chose St Andrews Uniting Church, Perth for their wedding ceremony. The bride remarking, “St Andrews church is a small church in Subiaco with stained glass windows that cast an amazing light in the church.”
Keren walked down the aisle to a piano instrumental version of Heaven Knows by Aaron Steele.
Of the ceremony, Keren tells, “Our ceremony was small and we chose to have it in the late afternoon. We had warm rays of light filtering through the windows and a simple bunch of baby’s breath on each of the pews. We had two readings from close family friends.”
Of their photographer, Keren tells, “I searched high and low to find the photographer that we wanted for our wedding. I found Steven by chance online and fell in love with his work! Steven has an amazing eye for capturing the moment and his photographs are unique in every essence. We could not have found a better photographer to capture our wedding!”
The reception was held at Keren’s parent’s home. Keren noting, “My parent’s home was built in 1910 and was the perfect place to have our wedding as it has so much character and warmth.”
The couple hung olive branches as the backdrop to the table, the bride potting herbs to decorate the centre of the long tables.
The newlyweds gifted their guests infused olive oils, Keren remarking, “Our favourite part was doing the little details ourselves, we spent many afternoons infusing olive oils and drinking red wine.”
Of their first dance, Keren remembers, “We danced to Latch by Sam Smith – under the fairy lights and vines in my parent’s courtyard, we danced for a few minutes before we were joined by the wedding party and all our guests.”
