Melanie & Mark
Oh there is so much to love about Melanie and Mark’s beautiful Velleron house wedding. From the pizza served up at the reception, the firework finale to the very special surprise the bride arranged for the processional. Melanie and Mark chose Kate Taylor of Quince & Mulberry Studios to capture their day.
Melanie kicks us off with the story of how they met. “We met working on Brampton Island Resort – I was actually quite rude to him as I wasn’t sure he was going to hang around. People tended to come and go quickly in these resorts. Neither of us were looking for a relationship – yet somehow we were living together after 2 weeks!
We moved to Dunk Island together shortly there after and took a small break while on that island, when cyclone Yasi hit the island we strengthened our friendship and then became a couple again.”
The groom wore a classic suit from Joe Black The Tailor.
Melanie chose a gown from Oscar De La Renta noting, “I found a gown that was strapless and had unique details to it, but mostly the dress allowed me to do the talking and accessorising which is me in real life.”
Melanie’s mother created the exquisite bouquets, and the Willow Tree Creative styled and planned the day. Melanie mentions, “I wanted a contrast of elegance and down to earth – a reflection of the both of us. I loved the fact our guests were overwhelmed with the location and styling of the venue and even more thrilled that they were getting to eat pizza and move around.”
Melanie and Mark chose private home Velleron House for their wedding, noting, “We were married at a private residence, Velleron House, North Tumbulgum, Northern NSW. I didn’t want a rustic cookie cutter outdoor wedding like every other Gold Coast bride – this venue had breathtaking scenery, a beyond gorgeous home that seemed more like we were in Europe than Australia. It really did just provide the perfect backdrop to fit in with our juxtaposition wedding – elegant and casual at the same time.”
Melanie tells, “My husband, his son and I made a flower board with dream on it, the vases were all hand painted spaghetti jars! The menus were all DIY, there were a few frames around the place that we had made which were used in the photo booth as well as the drinks menu at the caravan. I made the wedding program and the plates/knives and forks were wooden which we had decorated with gold glitter tape!”
Of her walk down the aisle, Melanie remembers, “I began my walk down the aisle to the traditional wedding march, and then a trumpeter and banjo player jumped out and played it in a Dixie jazz style like Louis Armstrong. I was inspired by a section in the movie High Society where Grace Kelly finally marries Bing Crosby. It was fabulous seeing my Dad’s reaction as well as the guests.”
I DO Weddings – Lisa Blackmore officiated the ceremony, the bride remembering, “Lisa Blackmore did a fabulous job of ensuring our ceremony was the perfect reflection of us. There was plenty of laughter and even cheering throughout our ceremony; another highlight was when we had a close friend read Huey Lewis The Power of Love after Mark and I exchanged vows.”
Of their photographer, Melanie remarks, “Kate was amazing and captured the essence of the wedding. We have had many compliments about her pictures from friends who were unable to be there about how amazing she is.”
Melanie tells, “We had lighting, a vintage van for the drinks and I felt the venue itself didn’t need too much. We chose gold, pinks and reds, my favourite colours and I felt they also matched the house and the elegant theme I was looking for. We had sashes and flowers on the chairs for the ceremony that were then repurposed for the table runners and vases. There was a flower board with dream on it and beautiful pink petal tablecloths for the tall tables.”
Crusta Woodfire Pizza served up steaming hot pizza, while Sugarize Cakes created cake and desserts, the bride remembering, “We both enjoy food and really wanted it to be a focus of the event. We opted for antipasti platters, pizza, and a table of desserts! Mark has a real sweet tooth so he chose the desserts for the dessert table and I love beautiful fresh gourmet Pizza’s. It was amazing to smell the wood fired pizzas and garlic through the venue. We had our MC announce that this was a wedding where you didn’t have to wait – if you wanted dessert and not dinner – go for it – there were no rules.”
For the reception. the bride changed into a short dress from Etsy, that she and her mother altered. The newlyweds choosing “Someone like you” by Van Morrison for their first dance.
The finishing touch of the night was a fireworks display by Mike Moir Of Rapid Action. Melanie telling, “It goes without saying that we like many other couples loved our photographer, it felt like she really got to know us and understood what we wanted on the day so clearly. We were blessed though with the majority of our vendors and had a general rule if we didn’t click with them we didn’t contract, in the end it felt like we were all friends. Planning my own wedding coupled with my background in events/management led me to starting a blog to document the ups and downs of my journey as a bride. Now I offer consultations to other brides to assist them in creating their perfect day at Melly Jane Style Co.”
Congratulations on your marriage Melanie and Mark! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you also to Kate Taylor – Quince & Mulberry Studios for sharing today’s images with us!

Our complete pleasure to feature your stunning wedding, Mel! What a beautiful day, and what a breathtaking bride you made! The bouquets are incredible – have now amended that in the feature. What a clever mother you have! x Ms Rose
Stunning Wedding!!! Can you please be so kind and send me the contact details of the owner of the Velleron house as I’m currently looking for a wedding venue myself.
Many thanks for your help,
Lena
Hi Lena,
Unfortunately these are unavailable! The property is a private residence and seems to be a little secret and very word of mouth. Perhaps try contacting the photographer?
Hi there, may I ask where you hired your dance floor from? Thanks
