Sarah & Natalie
The 1960s inspired Sydney wedding we’re sharing today is just so much fun. From the retro inspired wedding dress to the wedding reception at a milk bar completely with thick shakes, ice cream sundaes and burgers and fries. It’s such a love story of all things retro and of course, a brand new chapter for Sarah and Natalie. They chose Damien Milan to capture their day.
The couple’s four year old daughter was included in every part of the day.
Natalie chose a gown from Pinup Girl Clothing which she had altered, explaining “The dress was a vintage 1960s reproduction. I purchased the dress before Sarah actually proposed because I knew I was going to marry this woman and I wanted to wear this dress for her.”
The brides traveled in a 1959 Cadillac convertible from Ace Convertibles.
Natalie and Sarah chose Petersham Park Rotunda for their wedding, noting, “Petersham Park was used as it is a park we frequent with our 4 year old daughter.”
Natalie walked down the aisle to a violinist and celloist playing Breathe Me by Sia.
Natalie tells, “Despite being a small wedding with only 35 guests, we had people attend from interstate, London and San Francisco. It meant the world to us that people wanted to share in our special day. We were also seven weeks pregnant at the time and wearing a tight fitting dress whilst keeping it a secret was a challenge!”
Of their ceremony, officiated by John Truman Natalie remembers, “We wanted it to be intimate and laid back. We had a celebrant who was a friend, we wrote our own vows. There were tears and laughter. We asked our three closest friends to pick a reading that represents love to them.”
Of their photographer Natalie and Sarah note, “We were very specific about the type of photography we wanted – an urban feel, nothing too traditional. We searched the internet and found Damien Milan and knew instantly he was the photographer for us. We had one meeting and knew immediately we wanted him and Anastasia to capture our day. Damien planned the perfect itinerary for us and our driver.”
Sarah and Natalie chose the retro vibe of Daisy’s Milkbar for their reception, noting, “Jess and Jake, the owners of Daisy’s Milkbar were fabulous. We were their first wedding reception and they understand what we wanted. Uccella, the chef, listened to our food ideas and came up with a menu that fitted perfectly with our ideas: milkshakes on arrival, various sliders, vegan options, mac & cheese, cherry pie, mini sundaes and Uccella set our cheese tower beautifully.”
Of their first dance, Natalie tells, “Our song was Never Knew Love Like This Before by Stephanie Mills. It is a happy, disco song and the lyrics capture our love perfectly.”
Natalie tells, “We had milkshakes on arrival as my father used to take me for milkshakes as a little girl.”
The reception featured sweet details – lolly bags, origami paper planes to reflect Natalie’s late father’s profession (pilot).
Congratulations Sarah and Natalie! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you also to Damien Milan for sharing today’s wedding!
