One of my favourite parts about wedding planning is that it is such a great opportunity to get girlfriends together for a little pampering and a few special days out. A glass of champagne, getting your hair and makeup done, trying different styles and shopping for special gifts is a delightful way to spend an afternoon with your bridesmaids! This week for ‘Behind The Door With….’, I visited the perfect place to do just that, the Green Scarf Girl.

Rebecca Paris (The Girl) has over 20 years experience as a hair and makeup artist with her specialty being vintage looks and old Hollywood inspired styles. In 2011, Rebecca opened her first store in cute Pin Oak Crescent, Flemington and quickly developed a following of brides and clients who loved her vintage style. This year, Rebecca decided to move to the CBD in Melbourne and fell in love with her space in Carlow House, just off eclectic Flinders Lane.

Rebecca has transformed the white walls and big warehouse style windows with the most dreamy vintage styling I have ever seem. “I was inspired by the salons of the 1950’s and 1960’s” says Rebecca. “I wanted it to be a glamorous ‘go-to’, perfect for a lunch-break ‘do’, job-interview makeover or ‘touch-up’ before Friday night cocktails.”

I love the botanical style wallpaper and room dividers made from vintage doors. There’s purple velvet chairs and chaise lounges for the bridal party to relax on and antique mirrors on the walls. The gift store part of the space is jam-packed with delicate crockery, pretty gifts and even Rebecca’s own lipstick range Love and Sugar.

For the bride, Rebecca hosts wedding hair and makeup trials complete with a mini high tea and champagne for the bridal party. “It’s a time to relax and stop.. enjoy a special moment out of the wedding madness and have fun with your friends,” says Rebecca. For the big day itself, brides can come back to the salon or Rebecca can go to them, adorned with a green scarf of course!

A new space means new opportunities and fresh ideas and there’s plenty happening at the Green Scarf Girl in the future. Not just for wedding styling, Rebecca also hosts workshops in the space such as “The Perfect Pout” and “How to Tie a Scarf”. Rebecca has also added her new “Express” styling services for women that may only have 20 or 30 minutes to spare but want a fabulous, glamorous look. So far this has proved very popular at the new inner city location. The salon is also available for hire for styled shoots and even wedding photos.

The bright and pretty space exudes a softness and romanticism that will “capture the heart of every girl who loves fine china, vintage lace, French perfume and flowers,” says Rebecca. I couldn’t agree more!
