Kelly & Sam
I think we have proven time and time again at Polka Dot Bride that rain on your wedding day is not such a bad thing and today, it even provoked special memories for the bride, of days inside snuggling and lazing away the rainy days. Rain, in itself is such a beautiful story for a wedding day and one that has been captured so beautifully by Georgia Wiggs Photography.
Kelly and Sam met through Kelly’s maid of honour Jacqui, their friendship blossoming into a romance and now? A marriage.
Kelly notes, “I’m a graphic designer so I made the invitations, programs and table decorations myself.”
Kelly chose a lace gown by Lover, remarking, “I looked through countless magazines, blogs and pinterest boards before deciding that “traditional bride” was not for me. I wanted something simple and more fashion forward. I flew up to Denyse with one of my bridesmaid Lisa to try on dresses at Love The Label. They featured in all the modern blogs and their style really appealed to me. With no real clue what I wanted my dress to look like I tried on the entire store before finding my rosebud love! Lisa really chose my dress for me. She was adamant that that was the best one and without much more thought (2 coffees and a glass of wine) I got it!”
Miss Aimmey styled the bride and bridesmaids hair and makeup, Kelly remarking “Aimmey! This girl is the best MUA in Melbourne! She made our morning so much fun. The girls looked stunning, she was so creative with their hair! I was so happy with my hair and make up, something many girls struggle with. She listens to what you want and always good the extra mile for her customers.”
The couple chose to have a first look and wedding photographs before the ceremony, Kelly tells, “We broke all the rules on the day! We took photos before the ceremony to avoid the bad weather lurking! Turned out to be the best decision we made, it took the pressure off the day and when we walked into the chapel we both felt more relaxed and got to enjoy our ceremony.”
Lace Leaf Floral created gorgeous raspberry tone floral arrangements with natives, Kelly noting, “All our vendors where fantastic, quite a few came highly recommended or were people I already knew. My favourite planning stage was definitely the flowers, it was a lot of fun sitting down with Nicole nutting it all out and they came together beautifully! Though I did enjoy pretty much any creative planning being a designer I love anything creative! Apart from Georgia (our photographer) who was the highlight of our vendors, our florist Nicole was brilliant! Her arrangements were so creative and became the talking point of the day, so many people commented on how beautiful my bouquet looked! She was a delight to work with.”
Kelly and Sam chose Immerse Winery for their wedding, noting, “It took us a long time to find the right venue, it was always little things that didn’t seem right! When we finally found Immerse it was exactly what we wanted – a picturesque and dry place to get married (winter wedding), a relaxed vibe with great food and wine! Immerse is a small winery in the Yarra Valley, quite unassuming with a little wooden chapel overlooking the rolling hills and vineyards accompanied by a reception centre and onsite accommodation, perfect for the all day party we had in mind!”
The bride chose an acoustic version of “Hanging By A Moment” by Lifehouse for her walk down the aisle.
Joy Boyko officiated the ceremony, Kelly explaining, “My cousin was our celebrant, it was really lovely to be married by someone who has been such a big part of my life, she did such a beautiful job of capturing our relationship and preparing such a special moment in our lives. We had both a reading and a candle ceremony during the ceremony.
Our reading was Les Misérables by Victor Hugo which was read out by Sam’s sister Tess. We didn’t want anything too predictable or corny and found that this really captured how we feel about love and about our love for each other.”
“During the ceremony it started to rain quite heavily (thank god we considered the weather when choosing a location!) and the water trickled down the windows which looked beautiful, couldn’t have been more perfect! This small detail really made me smile because we love nothing more than to curl up together want watch the rain on a lazy winter morning.”
There were subtle touches of the proposal story throughout the day, the bride noting, “Sam proposed to me a Disneyland so we had our little touch of Disney on the day – all the bouquets had hidden Mickey pins, the groomsmen had star wars cuff links, our Disneyland tasting glasses and a Minnie Mouse pen my sister got us from Disneyland to sign the papers with.”
Kelly added a hairpiece by Cathleen Jia to finish her look, remembering, “Cathleen hand crafted a stunning custom head piece to match my dress, her stunning whimsical old world designs complimented my modern but classic dress and look!”
Of their photographer, Kelly tells, “Georgia is a friend of mine, we met whilst we where both working for Couturing during uni. I had always intended to ask Georgia to shoot my wedding, I loved her soft documentary style images, they capture such wonderful moments and allow the viewer to get a sense of the emotions on day. Georgia is a dream to work with, she brings a great sense of calm and balance to your day and no request is too much. We were blown away when we received our photos, she captured the day so perfectly and went above and beyond for us!”
“It started to rain after the ceremony and we where walking around the back field taking photos, we saw the cows hanging out in the paddock next to us and we decided we must have them in a photo! We maneuvered our way though the field and got the shots (amazing!!!!) then it began to rain more heavily! With a long walk back across the field I took off my shoes which where already soaked and ran back to the suite! Everyone seemed quite shocked!”
Kelly and Sam chose a cheese wheel stack from Bills Farm as their wedding cake.
Of their first dance, Kelly and Sam chose, “Like I’m gonna lose you” by Meghan Trainor ft. John Legend. Kelly notes, “We aren’t great at dancing so this was by far the most challenging part of the day! But it was one of few times during the day we got to spend time just the two of us and it was a great point to reflect on our day and just take it all in.”
Wooshka kept the music going and the dance floor moving, the bride remembering, “Wooshka our band- just wow! If you want a band that bring the party, hire Wooshka! A delight to work with and they really know how to entertain! They came all the way from Geelong for us and it was one of the highlights of our evening.”
Congratulations Kelly and Sam! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you also to Georgia Wiggs Photography for sharing today’s wedding with us.
Lovely wedding, pretty beautiful day!!!
What a gorgeous couple! Looks like they had a magical day 🙂
Lovely dress and bouquet, really compliment each other as do the couple. Lots of fun and smiles plus romance captured here and the rain certainly didn’t dampen their day…Love the shot of the bride walking along the wet grass holding her shoes.
