Quirky City Wedding - Polka Dot Wedding

Can we all agree we love a quirky city wedding as much as this one? Oh how we do. I love everything about Simone and Dan’s day. They wed at The Old Treasury Building in the city before heading to an inner city venue for a fun beyond measure wedding reception complete with pinata and plenty of confetti. A big cheers to Love Katie & Sarah who shot this wedding and sent it our way!

Simone tells, “Dan and I met 10 years ago at a friend’s fancy dress party. There was no theme! Dan was a dressed as farmer and I was a Scottish punk chick. We exchanged numbers and went on a date three days later to a comic book shop.”

The Green Scarf Girl styled makeup and hair for the bride and her bridesmaids, the bride noting, “The Green Scarf Girl was a wonderful place to prepare for the day. I loved the retro decor. Rebecca is a lovely person and made me feel very relaxed and calm. I couldn’t have been happier with my hair and make-up.”

Simone chose a sweet knee length frock by Ted Baker as her wedding dress.

Simone and Dan held a small, private ceremony at the Margaret Craig Room at the Old Treasury Building with just a handful of family and friends.

Of their photographer, Simone notes, “Dan and I are both visual artists, so choosing a good photographer to shoot our wedding was important to us. We loved the work Katie had done on other weddings. Her work is really relaxed and natural, and shot beautifully. Katie was a lot of fun to work with. Friendly and easy-going but also professional. The atmosphere of the day was captured perfectly – from quiet moments to crazy dancing!”

The bridal party headed to the moody Kelvin Club for photos, the bride remarking, “The Kelvin Club has a great old-school sports club vibe. There were leather arm chairs, billiard tables, pennant flags and wall plaques. We had a lot of fun working with our photographer in this space.”

“Our good friend Megan flew all the way from Los Angeles and surprised us at the Kelvin Club! We had no idea she was coming. We were so happy to see her!”

Family and friends awaited the newlyweds arrival at 1000 £ Bend Cinema Room. The bride remarking, “Dan and I love the warehouse aesthetic at 1000 £ Bend. Mis-matched retro furniture, exposed bricks and beams. The catering menu and drinks selection is great. We chose the cinema space upstairs because it was a bit smaller, and had a big screen which we used to screen looping animations. We hired the room for two days which allowed us to decorate the space ourselves.”

“Our MC and good friend Nath introduced us and we walked in to “Any Way You Want It” by Journey. Cheesy, but funny. Everyone threw petals at us!”

“We decorated the Cinema Room ourselves. The day before, Dan and his dad were up and down ladders installing paper lanterns and 200 metres of fairy lights. Our florist (Flower Bird ) did an amazing job and really brought the space to life with colourful Australian natives. Around the flowers we lovingly placed He-Man figurines and puppets. We also designed the invitation and posters.”

Flower Bird created the floral arrangements for the day, the bride remarking, “Flower Bird were fantastic. I shared ideas and photos with Mary and she totally understood the look I was after. I was blown away with the bouquet and how well florals worked in the industrial setting.”

“In the tradition of all good festive gatherings, a meat raffle was held. The DJ really got the crowd excited by playing cheesy game-show theme songs and sound effects. Cassie won the meat tray! The runner-up was Tom, who went home with a tin of biscuits baked by Dan’s mum.”

“Games of giant Jenga were fought and won and many donuts were eaten. Animations played on the big screen while friends and family danced to Beyonce, John Farnam and Dizzee Rascal.”

“Dan spent hours crafting a big, weird piñata! The bridal party all had a crack at smashing it open – eventually it was the best man who released the Whiz Fizz and Chupa Chups.”

Wedding cake was served in the way of delicious donuts from All Day Donuts.

“We didn’t really have a formal first dance, but someone pointed out that the first song Dan and I were seen dancing to was ‘Call Me Maybe’ by Carly Rae Jepsen!”
