Jaye & Jake

I am always enchanted by the red rocks of Broome and as a backdrop for a wedding? I’m not sure much could be more stunning! Photography By Emma Pointon  was there to capture the magic- everything from the deep red rocks, to the iconic Cable Beach sunset!

Jaye tells the story of how they met. “Jake first noticed me seven years ago while I was on a friend’s boat down on the Swan River. Jake was wake boarding on his boat with a few mates. He asked a few people who I was however he was too shy to actually come over and make conversation. The following weekend Jake and I were both out with friends and by chance ended up meeting at a bar in Fremantle, with a bit of Dutch courage Jake managed to spark up a conversation and later ask me out on a date.”

Jaye and the bridesmaids wore dresses from Loui Col Designs, Jaye remembering, “I absolutely loved having my dress, bridesmaid and flowergirl dresses made with Katie at Loui Col Designs. Katie started my fittings and making my dress three months before the wedding, so I had plenty of time to research and decide on what I wanted. It was a great experience to be able to pick my lace, make changes and see my dress evolve at each fitting. I had my last fitting the day before I flew to Broome and Katie was kind enough to keep the dresses hung up nicely for me to collect on the way to the airport. I will never forget this experience.”

Jaye and Jake chose Cable Beach Club Resort and Spa Broome for their wedding, Jaye noting, “Our ceremony was set amongst the Cable Beach Club tropical gardens on the Lily Pond Lawn. This provided a tranquil ceremony setting which overlooked the beautiful lily pond.”

Jaye remembers, “Jake’s sister Clare sang “Marry Me” by Train as I walked down the aisle.”

Of their photographer, Jaye tells, “Emma Pointon and her associate photographer Jasmine were energetic and a little bit quirky. They always made us feel at ease and brought a lot of laughter throughout the day. Emma and Jasmine allowed us to feel very natural in front of the camera which helped create amazing photos. Emma provided a photo booth as part of her package which is a must! Looking back at the photos always brings a smile to our faces.”

Jaye notes, “I loved having the wedding in Broome  – it was special as this is where I grew up and call home. The photos on the rocks at Ganthueme Point captured our love for this place where Jake proposed.”

Of the proposal, Jaye remembers, “Jake always told me that he fell in love with me during our first holiday to my hometown Broome. Since then Jake had always wanted to propose in Broome. Six (long) years after first meeting me he finally thought he should start planning the proposal. Jake had advised me that I had to fly to Broome to sign legal documents for my Dad. Jake thought he had come up with an elaborate plan; however, I was a bit suspicious and straight away called my mum to see if they could just email the documents. Jake panicked thinking I had gone to call my Dad as he hadn’t called him to let him in on the plan. Luckily for Jake I only called my Mum!

The following week we flew to Broome, I became even more suspicious when Jake started to take photos and prepare a Broome playlist while at the airport, he had definitely not done this before! Jake’s family were also a bit of a give away as they all gave me extra long hugs and could not stop smiling at me during family dinner the night before we flew out. On the day of the proposal we arrived in Broome, went for a lovely lunch at Matso’s Brewery and later that evening before sunset we drove to Gantheume Point. Jake was trying to wait for the sun to go down, however being super nervous he dropped to one knee and asked me to be his wife before the sun could reach the horizon.”

The reception celebrations continued in a marquee on the resort’s grounds The bride telling “I had always dreamt of having my wedding reception at the Cable Beach amphitheatre. It was even more amazing then what I had imagined. The expansive views over the picturesque Cable Beach, the camels walking past and not to mention Broome’s famous sunset.”

The bride and groom created the seating plan, telling, “We found old wooden ladders and made a hessian sign with the old keys and name tags hanging from it.” Guests took home the antique keys as wedding favors.

The weekend was full of celebrations, the bride explaining, “The four events we had planned made this a weekend not to forget. A welcome to Broome curry night at my parent’s for everyone to meet, Wedding, Broome Races and hiring the Karma IV Catamaran for a cruise along Cable Beach.”

Of the first dance, Jaye tells, “Jake and I had a surprise in store for everyone. We received lessons from our good friends Cara and Rob Sackett and after a few tough sessions and plenty of practice at home we managed to learn our first dance, which included an epic spin and the worm. Jake and I loved learning our first dance and practicing this before hand and Emma was able to capture our spin perfectly. When you look closely at the photo and the audience you can see everyone’s faces in amazement.”

That wasn’t the end of the dancing though, oh no – there was a dance off! Jaye explains, “There is a tradition that runs in Jake’s family. This is a dance off where the groom, groomsmen and male cousins battle the bride, bridesmaids and female cousins. At our wedding the girls won (we were lucky enough to have my cousin choreograph a dance for the girls, which we rehearsed the night before) The boys was just mayhem but created some great photos involving silly string.”
