Anna & Scott
Anna describes her wedding day to Scott as, “A slice of Melbourne at it’s best; a whirlwind tour from Yarra Valley winery to city restaurant and then local pub, all with a vintage feel.” This sweet Melbourne vintage inspired wedding took guests from the gorgeous Yarra Valley to the urban feel of a Fitzroy restaurant, all with plenty of details that represented Anna & Scott along the way! The newlyweds chose Vanilla Images to capture their wedding day.
Of how they met, Anna tells, “We met on a lane way and rooftop bar crawl around Melbourne arranged by my university friend’s friend’s workmate, who was Skooter’s sisters’ girlfriend’s ex house-mate’s girlfriend! I don’t know what the chances were of us ever meeting if it weren’t for that pub crawl!”
The groom designed a monogram for the wedding day, Anna telling ” Skooter (Scott) drew up a crest of a lion and a kangaroo to reflect our marriage between a Brit and an Australian. We had this embroidered onto cornflower blue ties for the grooms-men. It was also stamped onto little cotton muslin bags which we filled with sweets for the favours.”
Anna wore a vintage gown from The Vintage Wedding Dress Company, (now Charlie Brear), London. It was accessorised with a piece from the groom. Anna tells, “Skooter had discovered a stunning 1920s silver belt whilst visiting family in Ireland some years before, which he asked me to wear on our wedding day. Finding a dress that worked with the belt was a little tricky, but then I spotted a 1920s style dress at the Vintage Wedding Dress Company in London. The Lalique lace was stunning and I loved the backless, dropped waist style.”
Anna and Scott chose Stones Of The Yarra Valley for their wedding ceremony, remembering, “The chapel is modern yet simple and elegant. Whilst the stables are rustic and relaxed, with beautiful bare brick walls and a wooden bar. This is all capped off with stunning views across the vines to the blue tinged Great Divide.”
The bridal party traveled in London taxi cabs from London Taxi Wedding Service, Anna remarking, “We brought a touch of Britain to the event by using London Black Cabs for transport.”
For the processional, Anna remembers, “Our talented pianist, Calvin Leung played Bright Eyes, first day of my life.”
Guests enjoyed afternoon tea and wedding cake in the stables with floral design by Jaclyn Roma Floral Design. Anna noting, “My florist Jaclyn, who did a wonderful job of complementing the vintage objects with beautiful hydrangeas and pale pink roses.”
Of their photographer, Anna tells “We were lucky enough to have an awesome friend, who also happens to be an amazing photographer. The style and relaxed poses used in her photography were just perfect for what we wanted.”
Anna remembers, “We loved having our beautiful nieces and nephews as flower-girls and pageboys. The look on their faces as they ran around a big oak tree in the grounds of Stones, whilst all dressed up.”
Anna and Scott chose Jorg, Fitzroy North for their evening reception, noting, “The function room is a simple elegant white room which formed a great backdrop for the flowers and table arrangements. We wanted to give our international guests a taste of the fine dining that Melbourne is known for and Jorg did not disappoint, with delicate and delicious dishes.”
Anna sourced most of the table decor herself, remarking “We made our save the date cards and invitations out of luggage tags with a vintage cloud print on the front. We continued the theme through to the tables with guests names stamped on luggage tags for place markers. Each table was given a different type of cloud formation as its table name, along with a vintage image and description. I spent the months before the wedding collecting vintage objects for the tables centres.”
“Beautiful old wooden bobbins for the table where my aunt, a bobbin maker, was sat. An old retort stand and lab beakers for a table where a guest who was a scientist was. My favourite object was a beautiful vintage glove last, although guests liked the vintage globes and kids table with vintage toy soldiers and children’s games. I found some beautiful old antlers, which were a faded pale grey colour for along the top table.”
Guests received bags of sweets in muslin bags stamped with the crest designed by the groom.
Post reception, guests headed to The Lord Newry Pub, Anna remembering, “Our local pub was a great place to finish up the day with drinking and dancing in the upper lounge – the staff were fantastic.”
