Sarah and Chris
Winter seems like the most perfect time to escape to a warm European country for a destination wedding and that’s exactly what these two Australians did to celebrate! They found their wedding location seven years prior on a holiday to Spain, and even before he proposed, Chris has made sure it was available for their magical wedding day captured by Sarkodie Photography.
On how they met, Sarah tells, “Chris and I met 8 years ago in Cologne, Germany. I was with his best friend at the beginning. After we broke up Chris and I stayed in contact for a year and fell in love. We moved in together quite soon and a year after we moved to Australia together.”
Sarah tells their story. “Chris proposed on my 30th Birthday after we came back from a wonderful three day sailing trip at Hamilton Island. We stayed the the amazing Qualia resort. When we got back after a sunset walk on the beach he told me he just wanted to grab a jacket and I should wait outside. When he opened the door he played a very special song and he had candles lit and rose petals across the room and in the pool was a Dolphin which had “will you marry me?” written on it. Of course an inflatable one. :0) I was so surprised and happy and had to cry and then he got down to one knee and asked me and I said “YES” before he finished. The next day he told me that he had already spoken to the priest of the church in Frigiliana, our favourite little place in Spain. 7 years ago, on our first trip to Spain I said that one day when we get married this would be the place I would love to say “YES”. ”
Sarah remembers, “My stylist got sick on the day so I had to drive to Nerja with my mum and aunty and find an available stylist, which is quite a challenge when you don’t speak Spanish and they don’t speak any English. Plus there’s a siesta in Spain from 1pm till 4pm because of the heat. So absolutely everything is closed. But we found an awesome lady in the end who did hair and make up for us and it worked out quite well.”
Sarah chose a gown and veil from La Sposa. She notes, “I wore a diamond and pearl ring my grandad gave my grandmother shortly before he passed away as my something old and borrowed. My granny gave it to me before she passed away a few years ago. It was really very special to me. As my Dad’s parents have both passed away it was nice to remember them on the day. They were both very special for me and I’m glad I was able to incorporate something about them into the day.”
Sarah and Chris chose the Church of San Antonio, Frigiliana for their ceremony, explaining, “We chose San Antonio as the Church because it is right in the middle of Frigiliana next to a fantastic market place.”
Sarah remembers, “I saw Christof in tears for the first time in seven years as my Dad walked me down the aisle with ‘Amazing Grace’.”
Of their photographer, Sarah tells, “First my good friend Joseph, came all the way from Sydney to Spain to celebrate with us and of course he was also our photographer and he was simply amazing. He knew my style and what we wanted and also shared my vision of how the day should be photographed. He captured every moment perfectly and even some we don’t remember happening. 🙂 We were allowed to be who we were and weren’t asked to do awkward poses or anything too rehearsed.
We can’t find words … We can’t say thank you enough! Thanks to your incredible talent we can relive and enjoy our wedding again and again. You are the most talented photographer and we are so happy that we had the honour to have you with us in Spain to capture our celebrations! And now we are going to look at the pictures again… And again … And again! I have so many favourites! I am the happiest bride in the world!”
Hotel La Posada Morisca hosted the reception, Sarah noting, “The reception started at Hotel La Posada Morisca, where they did an amazing job with excellent food, decoration and service. As all our guests came from all over the world and had to travel a long way we decided to have a 4 day wedding celebration, which is also quite common in Spain. 2 days before the wedding we invited our guests to a local Tapas Bar on the little Market place in Torrox Pueblo in the mountains.”
Of the dance floor, Sarah notes, “There is one very special song for us, which Chris played as he proposed and he surprised me as he asked our guitarist to learn and sing the song for us when we walked down from the hill to go to the dancefloor.”
Congratulations Sarah and Chris! Thank you for sharing your destination wedding with us on Polka Dot Honeymoons! Thank you also to Sarkodie Photography for sharing today’s wedding with us!
