When a designer’s history covers Russia, Paris and New York you know there are going to be some hidden gems and with the latest Spring 2015 collection from New York designer J.Mendel, that is certainly the truth. Head designer Gilles Mendel (who now designs the brand after his father Jacques and great grandfather) is known for incredible pleating techniques. Making his gowns look simple at first glance, but slowly reveal their craftsmanship as the viewer takes in the design.

The latest collection has a relaxed chic style to it. Beautiful fabrics  like cobweb and floral laces weave their way into modern shapes, together with cloque organzas, silk crepes, graphic lace and gazaars. Details like raw edges, faille binding asymmetrical draping, and tiered hems are a feature.

J.Mendel gowns are available in Australia at Anna Da Fonte.
