Kellie & Luke

Kellie and Luke chose a beautiful romantic style to their wedding day. Infused with vintage inspired details and pretty pastel colours their day was captured by Insight Creative and showed off the beautiful gardens and landscapes around Townsville.

Kellie tells the tale of how they came to be. “We both grew up in the same small country town, our brothers were actually best mates, but it wasn’t until high school that Luke and I first met, we have been inseparable ever since.”

The bride and bridesmaids wore dresses from Jella Bella Designs. Kellie recalling, “Jella Bella made all our our dresses including my wedding dress, bridesmaids, flower girl, mother of the bride and my sister in law’s dress. She was so wonderful and really went the extra mile to make sure everything was just right. She was such a pleasure and really understood how I wanted everyone to look.”

The day was infused with carefully chosen details, right down to the bride’s perfume! “A bottle of perfume that I wore which Luke gave to me when I was 17, it was 10 years old that day.” Mandy from The Hair Boutique (the bride’s sister in law) styled the bridal party’s hair.

The Queens Gardens set the scene for the ceremony, Kellie noting, “We were married at the Queens Gardens under this beautiful raintree, We walked every garden in Townsville until we finally found the perfect spot, my poor husband was so thrilled once we finally picked something.” The ring bearer carried a little moss nest holding the rings.

The wedding was styled by Carbine Avenue. Kellie noting, “My wedding stylist Karen from Carbine Avenue deserves a very special mention. I found Karen after seeing a shoot she had styled for Insight creative – our photographers, and thought maybe she might be able to help us achieve what we wanted. We (really me) had very set ideas on how we wanted the day to look, and are very limited to what we can access here in Townsville.

Upon Meeting Karen I knew instantly she was exactly what we were looking for and she brought our day to life, everything was so stunning, all the little details she put into it. People asked how I could be so calm on my wedding day and it was very simple – I had all the right people in all the right places.”

Family involvement was important to Kellie and Luke who say, “We loved the special things family and friends did to be a part of our day – the poem my grandma wrote and read during our ceremony, my cousin Joanna singing the song we walked down the aisle to, Luke’s mum and my mum making a speech at the reception, my Uncle who was MC, there were just so many people that did so much to make our day what it was.”

Of their photographer, Kellie says, “I could not have been more thrilled with our photos. I spent hours researching trying to find the right fit for our wedding day, and when I met Honey from Insight Creative, I knew I had found the right person. The photos were one of the most important things to me. Honey and the team captured our wedding perfectly. I wanted it to read like a story with lots of natural candid shots and from start to finish there wasn’t a moment missed.”

The floral arrangements were styled by Townsville Flower Market. “Prue was fantastic, she really understood what was needed and was happy to work with Karen to achieve what I wanted for the day. The flowers were so beautiful.”

“My Maid of Honor – Angela was with me through the entire thing, and was just so supportive and helpful, I couldn’t have done it without her, I couldn’t think of anyone I would have had stand beside me on my special day.”

The bride’s transport was a surprise, Kellie explain,s “I loved the vintage car that my mum found the day before the wedding to take me to the ceremony, I could not believe she found this, I had nothing to drive me until that moment.”

Jupiters Casino hosted the reception outside, says Kellie. “Our reception was held on the outside lawns at Jupiters Casino, overlooking the sea and with views of Magnetic island. It was risky having an outside wedding especially in North Queensland where it rains every second day, but I was adamant that we would be outside, the weather turned on perfectly, a little too perfect in fact, it was the coldest day on record for that winter. Jupiters were brilliant, they definitely know how to run a wedding reception, everything was so smooth, the food was scrumptious, we couldn’t have asked for more.”

Kellie made a lot of details for the wedding, admitting she was slightly crazy, She explains,”I designed and made all of our stationery, which included covering around 50 books for our tables, as well as the bottles used for our seating chart among other things. The biggest job would have had to have been making the tablecloths & runners, we were crazy to do this, but I really wanted textured fabric and we just couldn’t find what we were after anywhere else.”

Carbine Avenue carried the styling through to the reception, Kellie noting, “We loved all the little touches Karen did with the decor, like the floral arrangements that hung from the doors, or the suitcase full of blankets for guests to use in case it was cold. Walking into our ceremony & reception, it was like walking into a dream, it was so stunning.”

Guests enjoyed a lolly buffet by Paper and String. Kellie remembering, “Mel was recommended to me through Karen, and at very short notice, created the most stunning display of sweet treats for our guests to take home with them. Not only did they look great, but they tasted even better.”

Details included a custom designed cake topper with the couple’s dog Flossie on it, vintage chairs borrowed from the photographer, a pocket watch, stripey socks and cufflinks given as a surprise gift to the groom and groomsmen from the bride, and even a special slideshow made of photos of the couple by Kellie’s mother.

One of the best moments of the day for Kellie was a surprise gift from her relatives. She tells “One of the best surprises of my wedding was something really special that my Aunt & Uncle did for me. We have this little mini chair in our family that was used by me when I was a little girl and then was given to my Aunty Kathy for her kids to use, and not only did they still have it, they actually went to the trouble of flying not only themselves over to the wedding (all the way from Karratha WA), but also this chair to give to Luke and I for our future kids.”

For their first dance, Kellie remembers, “We danced to Bruno Mars “Count on Me”, a song we felt truly represented us. It was so fun. Luke is not the most coordinated person, and we were nervous, but once we got started nothing else really mattered, and the best part was when our friends and family joined in and shared the moment.”
