Kathy and Jason
Kathy and Jason celebrated their Summer wedding with a gorgeous garden party feel. The day was not only infused with their cultural heritage (two tea ceremonies!) but their own sweet romance – blooms and a fresh garden feeling carried through each element of the day, captured by Kate Robinson.
Kathy kicks off the story with how she and Jason came to be. “Jason and I met back in high school. I was running late on my first day and it was Jason who opened the door to let me in. From then on, we were inseparable.”
The couple kicked the day off with two traditional tea ceremonies.
Kathy chose a wedding gown by Wendy Makin from Brides On Collins.
After the traditional tea ceremonies, the guests headed to St Monicas, Footscray for the ceremony. Kathy telling, “We’re currently based in Perth but we chose to get married back in Melbourne so we could share the celebration with all our family and friends. We had a Catholic service at St Monica’s in Footscray, a beautiful local Church which has been there since 1857. We wanted to get married somewhere that would mean something to us and St Monica’s was the perfect place for that”.
Kathy and Jason met before the ceremony for a quiet moment, Kathy remembers. “We loved having a ‘First Look’ as suggested by our photographer, was a chance for Jason and I to see each other before the hustle and bustle of the ceremony itself. It was a wonderful moment that we could have for ourselves to share in our excitement and calm our nerves before the wedding Mass.”
Kathy walked down the aisle to “Jason’s favourite – Pachelbel Canon in D Major “.
The spot ceremony celebration had plenty of sweet DIY touches, Kathy explaining, “I love DIY but it’s hard to do when you’re interstate and planning a huge wedding of over 260 guests! Some of the things we did manage to pull off was designing our own wedding invitations, organising a cute drinks stand and of course – making all the home decorations which included signs, bunting and flowers.”
The couple chose Carousel for their wedding reception, Kathy remembering ” The reception was held at Carousel – an amazing venue based on Albert Park Lake with amazing city views.”
Of their photographer, Kathy says, “Kate is the most friendly, warm and delightful person I have ever met. She was fun to be around and has a wonderful eye for pretty details.”
Envylope created the garden inspired stationery and signage for the day. Kathy remarking, “We also enlisted the help of Envylope to hand draw the welcome sign, menu and place cards”.
Pomp & Splendour styled the flowers, including a massive floral installation over the dance floor. Kathy tells, “We set out to have a garden party feel to our venue so we hired some picnic chairs and Petra from Pomp & Splendour did all the rest. Soft, sweet and whimsical – her work was flawless!”
The day was pulled together by wedding planner and stylist, The Creative Type. Kathy remembering “Our wedding planner Caroline was also an amazing help – she hosted a DIY party at her studio so our bridal party could assemble the little pom poms, ribbons and boxes to make our nifty macaron favours and she made a beautiful floral backdrop for the photobooth to fit in with our garden party theme. ”
Of their first dance, Kathy recalls, “We really nervous about it! We learnt a few basic steps from a friend and our bridal party came up for moral support… phew! ”
To top off their wedding day, Grandeur Films created a beautiful moving picture of the moments that unfolded.
