Corey and Emily

Corey and I married in Brownlow Hill NSW in October 2013 on our friend’s property under a huge 50 year old fig tree surrounded by our friends and family.

We met through old school friends at one of my old high school bonfire parties on my parent’s property. We instantly hit it off and have been together ever since. Corey proposed to me on the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland whilst on a working holiday there. It was such a intimate and romantic place to propose.

With the help from some friends I created my own vintage brooch bouquet, flowers for the bridesmaids and button holes for the groomsmen. I also made my lace hair piece with fresh flowers, flowers for the tables, table cloths, table runners, homemade jams and honey  for our guests, table numbers, flower confetti, bunting, the photo booth, all the props and the list goes on! My mother made my wedding dress from hand along with the four bridesmaid dresses and her own dress for the big day! The grooms suits were from Roger David and cufflinks made by the Groom. Corey made both of our wedding rings – We did the “engagement” ring for the wedding as Corey wanted to make my ruby ring.

We decided to get married outside, under a large fig tree with our friends and family. We chose this place as it was has a beautiful view overlooking rolling hills, a dairy farm and it is so quiet and peaceful.

I walked down the aisle to City and Colours “Northern Wind” which lyrically pretty much sums up Corey’s and my relationship together.

We decided to write our own vows and Corey’s vows blew everyone away. There wasn’t a dry eye in sight!

During the ceremony we decided to plant a tree together. As we are both avid gardeners we wanted to plant this tree at our home to remember our wedding day.

Alma Photography captured our wedding day and all of the DIY goodies which were created, by myself and the generous help of friends and family. I am a stylist at  The Fourth Meadow so the details come naturally to me. Alma and Claire from Alma Photography are a husband and wife duo – they captured so much love between us and with their quirky style photographed so many amazing images we absolutely adore!

We held our reception on my parent’s property at Theresa Park NSW. It was the perfect venue as we wanted an intimate reception, with the freedom to style it as we liked so that we could fully incorporate our personalities. We wanted our wedding to feel relaxed and to be an expression of love and joy.

We decided we didn’t want a big elaborate wedding cake so we decided to have a pie/tart dessert table instead! I sourced all of the pies from local bakeries and patisseries and the cake topper I found at Ready Go on Etsy.

During the reception we lit sparklers in memory of my brother who had passed away when I was young. We do this every  Christmas and as we really wanted my brother Rodney to be a part of our wedding we thought it only natural to light sparklers  for him.

We decided to hire a Jazz four piece band to get all of our guest up and dancing! We came across Jazz Fever who were absolutely amazing! They played chilled out old school jazz music such as Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington whilst our guests ate their meals and then played Jazz, Rock , Pop and Retro hits to get our guests dancing along!

Our first dance was from Vast “Take Me With You” which Jazz Fever kindly learned to play for us. As Corey doesn’t really dance it was a very special moment between us to be able to finally get my new husband up and dancing and actually enjoying it for a first time in his life!

Ms Gingham says: This is such a beautiful example of a real handmade wedding. So much was done by the bride and groom and what I love the most is that it came naturally therefore there doesn’t seem to be any stress associated with it. Congratulations Emily and Corey!

Emily says: “Our DIY wedding was so amazing that after creating & styling the event, I decided to make a go of trying to do other unique couple’s weddings + events (after many people telling me I should be doing this for a living!). So I created my own business The Fourth Meadow. I have a huge love for DIY, with an itch to create and I am an avid crafter who adores to cut, colour, sew and paint.
