Curtis and Billy-Jean

Curtis and I met some years ago at the local pub. I was a barmaid and he was a local. He was so shy he wouldn’t even give me his number so one of his friends did, I messaged him and here we are today. We have three beautiful little girls and have made our home in Rockhampton.

On March 8th 2014, on a beautiful Autumn day was our wedding at the Rockhampton Heritage Village. We chose the Heritage Village because we both love the vintage style and we were able to have the ceremony and reception at the same place. We had 76 guests and a Bridal party of eight. My four lovely bridesmaids and myself got ready at the Denison Boutique in Rockhampton. My lace gown and the bridesmaids gowns were from Hills in Hollywood by Allure Bridal. Danielle from Effekt Beauty did our makeup. She did an amazing job! Nadine from Wink For Hair did my hair and Samantha styled the Bridesmaids, my Mother In Law and my little girls hair.

The beautiful Dension Boutique

We were lucky enough to have a family friend do our flowers for us. Linda from Potz ‘N’ Pozies Florist – they were gorgeous. A mixture of purples, greenery and a touch of ivory. I wanted them to look they had just been picked from my garden.

The ceremony was held on a grassy area under an old oak tree, with an arch made from white fabric, an ivory carpet, white chairs and glasses with flowers down the aisle. My bridesmaids and I turned up in a horse and carriage which is something that I had always dreamed of, it felt like we were in a fairytale!

I really thought long and hard about the song I would down the aisle to, as I think it needs to be very meaningful. In the end, I chose Lullaby by the Dixie chicks. It is a song that is close to my heart and makes me get goosebumps every time I listen to it, the lyrics are very fitting. My eldest brother walked me down the aisle. It was so special to me and he did it with great honour! He was very supportive.

Our ceremony was very special to us and we wanted it to be very personal. Our celebrant Deb Edwards-Brown from Cloud Nine Celebrancy was so helpful. We wrote our own vows, using Deb’s help. We had a padlock ceremony, which is a symbolic gesture of everlasting love. During our ceremony we locked 2 padlocks together and tied the keys to a helium balloon and released it.

We added special touches to our day that reflected who we are. We didn’t want too much just a sweet and simple amount. After our ceremony we had a pre-dinner area for guests behind the shearing shed (where we held our reception). There was a lemonade stand with light refreshments/finger food available, while we were off getting more photos taken.

Our photographer was Orin Lucke from Blink Photography. Orin is so easy to work with and he helped make our day run so smoothly. Orin was great fun yet so professional at the same time! He was just AMAZING. He captured every special moment from our wedding day.

The shearing shed is a beautiful old building and suited our vintage wedding reception to a tee!

For our wedding favours we chose to do stubby coolers. Our friend designed the cartoon of us to put on them.

We had a wishing tree instead of a guest book. People wrote their message on a tag and hung it on the tree.

Our cake was a 3 tier chocolate mud, white chocolate and fruit cake with ivory fondant and the middle tier had edible lace around it. Curtis’s mum made the fruit cake for the top tier which was very special to us and she felt very honoured to be involved. Our cake baker was Jess from A Piece Of Cake in Gracemere.

Our Singer Keith Andrews was brilliant. He sang all night and played the list of songs which we had asked people to request on their invitations.

Our family dance was very special. Our children joined us to dance after we had danced alone for a few minutes.
