Happy Monday Dotties! It feels like Autumn is on the horizon- rainy days and a chill in the air has left me feeling quite excited for Autumn days!

Monday morning tradition at Polka Dot Bride is to showcase our fabulous members of Ms Polka Dot’s Directory.  From Flowers to Hair & Beauty to Catering and even Cakes Pop on over and see our fantastic vendors, we love the vendors who grace our pages. Their hard work and passion shows through everything they do – the kind of people who will pull up a chair and have a drink with you while talking over your wedding plans!

I’m not sure I’ve ever met a person who hasn’t got a soft spot for the beauty of Byron bay. There’s something magic about the place- which makes it a pretty perfect place to tie the knot! So with that in mind, meet our vendor of the week- beautifully breezy, ocean views and spectacular food- Byron Beach Cafe!

We asked Ben and Belinda from Byron Beach Cafe five questions in five minutes –

What is your favourite after five drink?

To unwind, nothing beats a cocktail! At the moment, we’re loving the classics! Martinis, champagne cocktails and anything containing Pimms No.1 or Campari! We love to mix it up and have some fun by playing around with different fresh ingredients including pomegranate juice, lychee puree, cloudy apple juice or freshly squeezed blood orange juice (with some zest added for extra zing)! For our wedding clients, we recommend a cocktail or special drink to help kick off the celebrations, which we perfectly match to a selection of appetisers. It’s a fabulous way to get the party started.

Your favourite weekend getaway?

For a short but complete break, one of our favourite things to do is hire a house boat. We pick up the kids early from school on a Friday afternoon and drive two hours south to the Clarence River. On the Thursday before, we always visit the local Farmers Market and stock up on local organic produce, breads and homemade goodies. We leave all electronic devices at home and pack plenty of books, board games and magazines. Drifting aimlessly along the river is totally relaxing and soothing. We love it!

Favourite restaurant?

Our vote has to go to the Byron Beach Cafe (although we are a tad biased). Most recently, we’ve welcomed a new head chef, Kaine Hunt, fresh from 3 years at Longrain Restaurant in Sydney. Kaine is creating some gorgeous, Asian-inspired dishes with a thrilling twist – which we are devouring (and so are our customers)! Our favourite time of the day is sunset. There is nothing better than enjoying a chilled glass of wine or cold beer as you watch the sun slowly sink away across the Pacific Ocean and over the mountains. Our dining deck has a retractable roof and at night, the atmosphere is very romantic, with twinkling tea lights on the tables and the stars above. It really is bliss.

What can we find you eating for breakfast on a Sunday morning?

We work most weekends, so you’ll find us at Byron Beach Cafe enjoying a freshly squeezed ‘juice of the day’ followed by a strong espresso (or two). It’s summer at the moment, so we’re enjoying an early morning lighthouse walk or surf followed by our salmon gravlax with sweet corn fritters or our organic baked eggs with haloumi and harissa. If we’re not working, we love a long weekend breakfast at Harvest Cafe in Newrybar in the Byron hinterland. This renovated old farm house bakes their own sourdough bread on-site in a 100 year old wood-fire oven. Magic, with some locally made jam and the weekend paper.

Your favourite wedding story?

We have been incredibly fortunate to host so many beautiful weddings at Byron Beach Cafe. Everything from elegant beachfront soirees to garden parties to luxe glamour affairs and everything in between! We’ve met wonderful couples along the way and each and every wedding has been unforgettable! Most recently we were inspired by Tai & Susan’s wedding. This creative couple loaded their wedding day with meaningful moments and elements that undeniably said ‘this is our day’. Fun and relaxed, this wedding was filled with beautiful homemade items to personalise the couple’s day including bunting, origami, photo displays and a lawn ‘planted’ with colourful heart motifs. As the couple arrived at the Byron Beach Cafe they were greeted by an ‘aisle’ of 3m high hearts that were set on fire, leading the couple to their wedding reception. Whilst the day was intimate, the couple maintained their sense of fun and humour – including the best wedding waltz we’ve even seen (performed to ‘Kung Fu Fighting’)! Susan and Tai’s wedding perfectly reflected their personalities – which makes for a perfect wedding day!
