Anu and Joe

We know here at Polka Dot Bride we’re Australian focused, but every now and then a wedding like this modern art gallery wedding, pops across the oceans from Atlanta, and it inspires me so much I think it deserves to be shared!

Captured by Our Labor of Love by Heidi Gelhauser, the modern art gallery atmosphere is complimented by the couple’s Indian heritage and the touches they were to sure to include to honour their culture. Nicole Fantz planned today’s celebration while Juli Vaughn took care of the event and floral design.

Anu tells the story of how they met. “As much as we would like to say we have a cute/special meeting story, we don’t! We met through mutual friend’s at a birthday party.”

Of their outfits, Anu tells, “My bridesmaids wore Indian outfits to incorporate the cultural aspect. We also had several Indian traditions sprinkled throughout the ceremony and reception to ensure we were giving proper respect to our heritage.” Anu herself chose a strapless gown from La Sposa with polka dot shoes from BHLDN.

Anu and Joe were married at Cathedral of Christ the King. Anu explaining, “We are both Catholic, so we had our wedding ceremony at the Cathedral of Christ the King. This is also the Church we attended for the weekly Sunday mass so it had a special place in our heart.”

Anu walked down the aisle to ‘Festive Trumpet Tune’ by David German.

“The entire day was beyond everything we imagined it to be. We got to marry each other in front of our closest family and friends and then party the night away with them!”

Of their photographer, Anu says, “Our photographer was Heidi Geldhauser with Our Labor of Love. We couldn’t have been happier with her work. She was able to capture all the special moments we had with each other, as well as with our friends and family so beautifully. The pictures turned out STUNNING. We know we had an awesome wedding (biased much?!) but to actually see the day through her pictures was a whole different experience!”

Anu and Joe chose Murer Art Gallery for their reception, Anu remarking, “One of the biggest things on our list was to find a unique venue for the reception. We decided to have our reception at the Mason Murer Fine Art gallery. We loved this space for its simple, sleek, and contemporary feel.”

The reception was decorated with bright bold colours and graphic prints, pulled together by event and floral designer Juli Vaughn , Anu explaining, “We were completely drawn to the contemporary aspect of our reception space – however, we also wanted it to feel warm, eclectic, and romantic. Juli Vaughn created a design proposal that did exactly that. My wedding colors were navy and coral, but we didn’t want it to dominate the decor so we added a lot of soft florals.”

Guests enjoyed a signature cocktail. “Of course, our wedding wouldn’t have been complete without our signature drink -“The Jonu”. We both had a lot of fun taste testing to perfect the recipe and to achieve the perfect “coral” color!”

Anu and Joe had a different take on a photobooth – hiring The Guestbox. Anu explains, “We had our video booth courtesy of Guestbox where our guests had prompts and props to make hilarious videos for us.”

“We wanted the reception to feel less formal, so everything was kind of built around that. For dinner- we had several food stations so people could try different types of cuisine.”

Anu loved, “People coming to us constantly at the reception and telling us what a great time they were having. Even to this day, we hear about how much fun people had. Makes every single moment of stress and hard work around this wedding totally worth it.”

Ana changed into traditional Indian attire for part of the reception.

Then it was time for dancing! For the first dance, Anu recalls,  “We, unfortunately, didn’t have a song that we could call “our” song. So, we decided to pick a romantic yet sassy song that defined our personalities! We had our first dance to “Feeling Good” by Michael Buble.”

Congratulations on your marriage Anu and Joe! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you to Our Labor of Love by Heidi Gelhauser and Juli Vaughn for sharing today’s celebration with us!
